Description: Traditional pub, bridging the gap between Hotwells and Clifton. Nothing fancy, but a good place to grab a burger and a pint.

OK this is not a restaurant. However, the food is good quality, the menu is interesting and the ambience is second to none. Sunday roasts feature the usual plus a couple of veggies options- no problem if you want the gravy served separately. Burgers are excellent Boullabaise is authentic and the salad dressing is to die for. One of my favourites has to be the Legendary Ploughmans which means you choose 3 items to go on you rplate along with salads and a roll- includes smoked salmon, various cheeses and cooked meats- this is a feast of vast proportions! All this and the beer is exceptionaly well kept too!

I sat on a table outside on a sunny day on a Sunday in August here. The staff were friendly and the food was good - very big portions. I had a roast Sunday dinner which was nice. My only disappointment was that that roast potatoes were the ones that come from frozen in a bag - they taste like cardboard. Other that it was nice.

I based my visit to this pub, by the reviews on Tripadvisor.
I was after a genuine Ploughmans and having read the good reviews on here decided to visit the Pub on a lunchtime. You do get to choose 3 different varities of cheese. So with anicipation we ordered 2 ploughmans. I was so disappointed with what arrived. It wasn't a ploughmans but an overpriced glorified cheese salad. There was no warm crusty roll but a cold round bun shaped thing. There was no apple, only 5 slithers of apple that when put together was about a 1/10th of its size. No pickled onions. Not recommended. Will not be visiting again.

Great pub with variety of beers, and has a choice of Cider on tap. On a warm sunny day it is fantastic to sit out in the garden. I dont often have lasagne, but when ever I go here, I always have it. You order at the bar, and the staff bring your order to you.

We've been going to the Hope and Anchor since 1995. We've been away for a while, and on our recent visit, it was fantastic to find that very little, if anything, has changed. The beers are kept beautifully and there is a great range of local real ales. The menu is unchanged after all that time - all the favourites are there and they are as good as ever. It's in a great location in Bristol - after one of their vast meals, a walk to the top of Brandon Hill can help burn off all of those extra calories. Their beer garden is a winding maze of tables, ensuring some privacy, but mind those steps after a few too many! The only thing that has changed is that of course there is no smoking now in the pub and they do allow well behaved children inside the pub.

The Hope and Anchor is proof that when you have something that works so well, it doesn't need to be changed.
