“Good quality and very comfortable”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

We stayed at the Mercure Bristol for one night in October 2012, to see a gig at Colston Hall.

It was a very comfortable room, with everything you'd expect - but also the most amazingly comfortable chairs!

The staff were very friendly, and the food at breakfast was excellent - very fresh and a wide choice.

My only criticisms were that the room only had a shower, which I usually only expect in London at the price we paid. When I asked about this at reception, I was told that only some rooms on that wing have baths, and that we needed to specify we wanted a bath when we booked?? Never heard that before.

Also, the parking at the hotel is very expensive, considering you can park for half the price just across the road. I suppose it's down to how safe you think the other car park is, but it was OK for us.

It was a confusing walk into the centre of town, so don't take it for granted that you will easily stroll back to the hotel after a night out. Make sure you know the route.

We would consider going back again, but probably only if the hotel was making a special offer ... and would definitely remember to ask for a room with a bath :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath!

Thank you for your informative comments, I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and hopefully the gig was good too!
Each hotel is different with regards to certain requirements in the room - our hotel just needs to be informed of baths! You were informed correctly that we only have baths in certain parts of the hotel; therefore if you were to come back to the hotel we would be more than happy to reserve one of these rooms for you.
As for parking, you will find in most cities that these are the normal charges - that's how we choose our price, we research and compare with other hotels.
I understand how it can be confusing of you whereabouts when venturing into town, Bristol can be like that! However, the reception team are more than happy to offer a map and directions, plus taxi numbers in case you get lost! (including the hotel's number!)
Thank you once again for your feedback
Kind regards

Stayed there last night th room was good, nice comfortable bed, great howler, spotlessly clean. The only criticism was the lighting which is poor. Breakfast was really good. I would stay again, your staff are a credit to you.

To start with the good things - the breakfast selection is impressive and of good quality. The fixed price dinner menu is very good value. The service is friendly and welcoming.

What I found poor was the following - although some people might think it doesn't matter. First there are (I was told) only 3 rooms out of 275 with windows which open. Second the air conditioning is old and only works as a heater in cold weather. This means that if you don't want your room hot, and you want some fresh air - then tough, unless you can get one of the three rooms with opening windows. Next, there are no ceiling lights in the rooms, so they are gloomy if you want to do anything other than watch television or sleep. They are no good for longish periods of work if you want to spread out and read documents. Minor irritation 1. I ordered a paper when i checked in. It was delivered the next morning, but not the following one. Minor irritation 2. On the second morning I left my towels on the towel rail, indicating I'd use them again - but when I got back in the evening they'd been dumped on the bathroom floor and left there - nor were there any clean towels.

Room Tip: Ask for one with windows that open if you want some fresh air

Thank you for your informative review of your stay with us, your comments are most useful. I am disappointed that a few things during your stay did not meet your expectations.
With the lighting in the room, we try to create a relaxing atmosphere, hence the low lighting but we would like to think that there is sufficient light for reading ( though we do appreciate each different opinion in this matter)
When you say that some of the things that you mentioned may not matter to other people, well it matters to you and as one of our guests it does make it important to us. Your feedback is most useful in these kind of cases. It is true that we have very few rooms that are able to have windows open, however due to the fact the the hotel itself is an old building, there was little much that could be done during the conversion to a hotel.

I do hope that we will welcome you back to the hotel again in the near future
Thank you once again for your comments

Kind regards

A bit of a walk out of Bristol, however, a lovely hotel with excellent service. Parking is available and the hotel is spacious. The breakfast menu options are spot on too. The bedrooms are lovely and are very clean up to head height (high surfaces were dusty in my room).
The Deal or No Deal contestants can be loud but they add to a great atmosphere in the hotel.

Fuss-free arrival. Clean (spacious) room. Poor spa. Excellent meal in the restaurant. Overall I highly recommend a stay at this hotel. Very good for business stop overs. The restaurant could benefit from some additional decor and identity statements.

A group of us stayed here as part of a hen party in August. Very clean hotel, room small but had everything you wanted in it, breakfast was lovely - so much choice! and the location was ideal, about a 10 minute walk into town and the station. The staff were very friendly. The swimming pool was really lovely too. I would stay here again!
