“Pleasant neighbourhood restaurant with good drinks and wine list”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Cherry Duck is a small restaurant that can only accommodate about 30 people so it is worth booking in advance. If you are booking ask for a table overlooking the river as our table overlooked shabby rubbish bins outside the next building - would suggest that they put up some kind of a screen at the side.
Friendly service although we had to ask for somewhere to hang our coats, ask for another drinks list as they only brought one etc - small things but they could definitely sharpen up here. Also they don't need to give you the talk about the olive oil being first pressed organic etc when they bring the bread it is unneccessarily pretentious.
Drinks list is excellent, wide range of wines, cocktails and there are plenty of larger places in Bristol that have much less impressive drinks list. Short menu understandably given the size of the restaurant but all very tasty. Relaxed atmosphere and good value.
The only reason I have given the Cherry duck 3 stars not 4 is that I think the food is of a good standard but it is not 'stand out' in any way. Overall i would say a good neighbourhood restaurant with a drinks list that is in the next league. Really wish this venture well.

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal at the Cherry Duck and it was a pleasure serving you.

We actually have a new refined drinks list coming out in May with lots of delicious things on it, I'm sure you'd love even more.

Regarding the view of the bins; we are still awaiting a frosted screen to be put up (this was ordered a couple of days before your visit) and I'm sorry it sullied your evening, but this will be remedied very soon.

We tend only to hand out one wine list because of the amount of space on the tables, however, we now ask each table how many they would like to make sure people aren't left wanting.

The oil we use is grown near the mountains in southern Spain by friends of the owners who tend the grove themselves completely organically and hand pick it every year. They sell it to us and less than a handfull of other people. We keep this descreption very brief but I'm afraid this fantastic oil does warrant it and most people are really interested.

It's a pity our food although being 'all very tasty' only warrants 3 stars. I really hope you come again as our menu changes very frequently and hopefully the next time it will hit all the right notes.

Hope to serve you again.

“Excellent fine dining in a relaxing setting”

Just been here and had the most amazing Sunday Roast I have ever had - meat was succulent, roast potatoes fluffy on inside, crispy on outside, yorkshires light and fluffy - just wonderful. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

“Best place to eat in Bristol, fantastic Sunday lunch”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

We have just had one of the best ,if not the best Sunday lunch I have ever had!
We paid the extra £3 on the 2 course £16.50 (3 course £18.95) to have the Rib Eye 40 day hung Somerset beef with beetroot purée and horseradish cream and WOW what a fantastic flavour. Served with parsnips, roast potatoes, carrot and Swede ,perfect cauliflower cheese, lovely cabbage(even though I'm not normally a cabbage fan) and huge crispy home made Yorkshire pudding. The Rib Eye was like a huge fillet steak but tastier and cooked to perfection.
I chose Lime mousse with raspberry sorbet and Pistachio Tuile for dessert, What a beautiful mix of mouth watering flavours .my husband chose the cheese board with a quality selection of organic local cheeses with home made fig chutney.
The service was friendly yet professional ,with a true passion and vast knowledge of wines and alcoholic beverages, with recommendations to compliment your food. It is obvious a great deal of thought has gone in to selecting the wines.
All in all ....Fantastic quality, delicious flavours, excellent wines and great service. I can't wait o go back.

“Great find”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

A great little restaurant. We arrived on time but our table was not quite ready. They were very apologetic and offered us complimentary cocktails. It is only a small restaurant and the atmosphere is just right. The menu was concise with roughly, four or five choices for each course which i like. The food didn't disappoint. Presented well and full of flavours and the waiter explained where the food had originated which was a nice touch. The staff (three of them) overall were very pleasant and attentive. This is a restaurant i will be visiting again and when the sun shines its a very pleasant place along side the river to spend an evening.
