“Budget hotel, exceeded expectations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

Stayed two nights whilst on business. Last time I used the Travelodge Cribbs Causeway, which was awful. I didn't expect much when I arrived here but first impressions were that the hotel was clean, bright and well staffed.

My room was well presented, very clean and the communal areas were spotless. The bed was comfy with a choice of pillows. Nice big TV, fresh and bright bathroom and the air conditioned room was silent all night....except for the air conditioner which was a bit noisy.

Ample free parking, a pleasant enough breakfast included in the rate and a nice enough bar/lounge area, if a bit soulless. Only real downside was the lack of restaurant (only meal offering is a stodgy pizza) and an inability to use my meal allowance at the pub next door. However, I was offered local restaurant details and plates and cutlery for takeaway or the use of a microwave for heating up something from Sainsbury's.

The location is handy for the local industries and can be reached without difficulty from roads and railway. It's not too far into the city centre and Cribbs Causeway but you probably wouldn't choose to stay for a weekend break.

The team has very much enjoyed reading your comments and housekeeping are thrilled to hear their hard work being recognised through cleanliness of the hotel. We take pride in the appearance of the hotel and with new flat screens added to the bedrooms, we are also pleased to announce FREE wifi to be used in the comfort of your en-suite bedroom also.

Unfortunately the hotel is not a full service hotel and there for we try and cater what we can in terms of hot food. However, we do have a pub restaurant less than 2 minute walking distance and we offer take-way menus for those that would like to relax and have an informal evening here at the hotel.

Have a lovely Easter and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Kind regards,
Helen Redpath

Check in was quick & efficient had a choice of floor offered. Room was clean, tidy & adequate for my needs. Free Wi Fi in lobby was useful. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Will definitely use this hotel again. Useful restaurant across car park although can get busy, staff also offered choice of takeaway menus.

Room Tip: Corner room are slightly larger.

Checkin was fine, staff were friendly and the room was clean. You will need a car to get to the place as it’s not centrally located. If you are in Bristol city for tourism or work than best get a closer hotel. I didn’t try the breakfast but it was included in the room price.

This is a clean and quiet hotel with friendly and helpful staff, that is well-located close to the M4 and only 15 minutes to the centre of Bristol by car.

Breakfast is included in the room price making it particularly good value.

The initial booking was easy and efficient. The hotel itself is just of the off the A4174, but you need to have your wits about you, if coming from the East, and having to navigate the large roundabout which the front of the hotel faces. You also need be aware, and try to avoid the area completely if driving, during ‘rush hour’ periods – it gets heavily congested and grid locked in all directions.

Car parking can be a problem at times because the hotel does allow its car park to be use to other non-hotel residents – which is exasperated by the large MoD site across the road (which does not have any visitor parking of its own). Also make sure you register your car registration number when booking in.

The reception was stress-free and competent, with the staff being friendly, professional and able to answer questions easily with knowledge.

The room, on the ground floor facing the restaurant (Fox Den), was clean, comfortable and had adequate soundproofing (needed at rush hour with a major road on one side of its boundary and a business park on the other). The air conditioning, though keeping the room warm, is noisy (but was needed as the temperature outside was below 0 C). The shower/toilet room is OK and the shower adequate, but there is no heating in there, nor a heated rail to dry towels.

The bar staff (who double as receptionists) were friendly and efficient and there is free WiFi in the bar/restaurant area (but you have to pay to use in the rooms). Drinks as about average prices and you are able to purchase a Pizza or other items on site - but it is worthy of note that there is also a restaurant that occupies the same site and a MacDonald’s across the road.

The breakfast was adequate and on par with other Holiday Inn Express sites (for example; there is no full English - just scrambled eggs, sausages and baked beans) and it is definitely not what you would describe as ‘locally sourced’. However, that said, it is ‘free’ (but see my point below on prices).

As a business traveller I would use this location again – but only if and when I have business in the area. Price wise it compares with other similar hotels in the area (which I have to say is on the expensive side for what you get).

The hotel is some way out of Bristol centre but very well placed for the major industries of the areas, Airbus, MoD etc. If I was on holiday, not sure I would like it that much.

Rooms are clean, well appointed and insulated well from the noisy road outside. Staff are very nice and helpful.

The breakfast is OK, very average to be honest, but adequate. Wifi is only free in the reception area, which I think is really tight to be honest, in today's world, there is no need for that type of restriction.

I think the hotel is overpriced for what it is, but seems to charge the going rate around that area, so it is either reasonable (for the area) or all hotels are overpriced in that area (which is my opinion) and they charge the price due to many business travellers who are prepared to pay.

Was really pleased at how clean the room was. Always a plus!
Just a shame the bed was so uncomfortable. The hotel is close to a main road but I did not notice any traffic noise at night.
Would stay again for the price we payed.
Also a lovely little pub next door.
