“Emmaus House is a real gold mine”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

We have now held three one-day workshops at Emmaus House and this venue has proved to be a real gold mine. Our events are for social workers whose evaluations are particularly praising of the wonderful hot meals that are provided, including sometimes hot puddings! Other comments on participants' evaluations highlight the friendliness of the staff who we've found to be hugely accommodating and helpful. This venue is also excellent value for money and it's only minor downside is that it took us a while to find our way round the rabbit-warren locations of the different rooms on offer.

We also use Emmaus House for our monthly social work meetings and again, this venue has proved excellent. The parking facilities are a huge asset.

A few of us were going to a conference in nearby Clifton Cathedral so decided to stay the night before at Emmaus House. Easy to find from Clifton Village, efficient booking in and good en-suite room. Spotlessly clean as is the rest of the house. We went out for the evening and were able to get back into the house without any problem or disturbing anyone. The views are lovely as the house is high up. The gardens are something we did not have time to visit but we could see all the awards they have won over the years. Continental breakfast was OK - all self-serve. The dining room was not easy to find and when I mentioned this to one of the Order she said they tried to keep notices stuck on walls to a minimum so the 'homely' feel could be maintained. Good point but still think reference to the dining room could be included on one of the signs already up. Would stay here again.

Emmaus is perched on the edge of Clifton with great views out over the docks and the city. It is yards from the lively village of Clifton with its many shops and restaurants and the historic Clifton Suspension bridge is only a few minutes walk away.
Emmaus itself is a haven of calm set in lovely award winning gardens and entirely enclosed in its own grounds. The houses have considerable history - and lots of steps up and down.
Emmaus runs a full programme of human development courses and retreats, including a particular focus on the the Enneagram and Myers Brigges. It also offers bed and breakfast, functions and self organised or supported retreats and reflection.
The house is run by a Christian order and welcomes those of all faiths and none.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house probably have better views. The new wing has dormer windows which are a bit...
