What a little gem this is.We came upon it by chance while we were wandering looking for somewhere to have lunch. We first looked in the food hall and were very impressed with the quality of food on display so we took the risk.Well priced with excellent food and service.

“Sublime”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Ravenous after a 3 hour clifftop trek, in the mood for fresh, local fish and having been turned away from Loch Fyne at 8.45pm on a Saturday night, things were not looking good. But our disappointment started to lift as we stumbled upon Source. We were immediately seated in a booth of the half-empty restaurant. The menu quietly stated a commitment to quality, local, ethically-sourced produce which was encouraging. The waitress was polite and attentive without being obtrusive, and brought complimentary warm bread rolls (fresh from the oven, one flavoured with cumin and rosemary, one with cheese) served with salty butter. Such extras always get bonus points in my book. We chose the second cheapest house wine (£21) which was a quite delicious Italian red. My starter of wood pigeon was earthy, tender and chewy, complimented by salty coins of crispy, chorizio and a delicate, soft celeriac puree. My boyfriend's butternut squash and amaretti ravioli were light and sweet. Our main course of hake and clams in a white wine sauce was heavenly: perfectly seasoned and again such an ingenious mix of textures and flavours, bitter kale, salty mash, plump sweet hake, with a slightly crispy caramelise surface and chewy clams. So much thought and effort has gone into these dishes and the results spoke for themselves. Dessert, though competent, was slightly disappointing given what had come before: dense, rich mousse and cake (his orange, mine chocolate) would have benefited with some of the lightness of touch evident in the starter and main course. They were cakes more suitable for afternoon coffee perhaps. But perhaps my expectations had been raised well above the bar. The bill came to £75, modest in my opinion for 3 courses for 2 people and a bottle of wine. And unlike so many "posh" restaurants we certainly did not feel underfed- the portion sizes were perfect. There was no mention of a service charge, discretionary or suggested on the bill. We left one gladly and cannot recommend Source highly enough.

“Worth a visit for some lovely fresh local food”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Having family in the area, we visit Bristol fairly often, and rather than eat in your usual chain restaurants or cafes, I make a point of visiting Source Food Hall. The fact that the food they offer is made with fresh locally sourced ingredients, and prepared and cooked to a very good standard is a big reason for that. The service is great with the staff being very friendly, and the value for money is spot on. It's also handy that I can pick up some of that same fresh meat or fish after a nice bite to eat.
It is definitely worth popping in if tasty fresh local food is what you're after.

“At last!!”
Reviewed October 10, 2012 via mobile

I live and eat out in Bath a lot and when I come to Bristol I'm usually disappointed by the resturants on offer but no longer. Source is a great place to eat the food is fab and service excellent. A great enviorment to eat in and prices are spot on for the quality on offer, they even have a shop on site where you can buy the produce your eating, you cant eat fresher. Give it a try and I'm sure like me you'll be back.

“Food by people who care!”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This place is truly a haven for those who genuinely love and appreciate quality food and drink. For me it is reminiscent of shops of old where you know the names of the staff and they know you rather than the faceless service one can generally expect in the supermarkets. It also makes a huge difference to be able to discuss the actual produce your buying whether that be meat, fish, cheese, cakes, fruit or veg and everything in between. The fact the shop is in a stunning building and looks beautiful inside is a bonus! Great staff, amazing food and a true home away from home. If great food is your passion or you're just seeking out a great cup of coffee visit this place and you will not regret it.
