While visiting the SS Great Britain, we had a couple of hours left on our parking ticket so decided to head here for a look.

The M shed is often featured in local news but I've never visited, and once inside I realised what I'd missed out on! Set over a wide area, there are exhibitions on the history of Bristol that I was ignorant of parts of - rather than sterile museum exhibits there are elements of interaction as well as real stories and views of historical figures right up to the present day (and indeed they ask for public input if you have a story to tell of the area).

Really enjoyable spending a couple of hours here, and two Gromits to photograph to boot!

Thank smarob

We were in Bristol to see Gromit Unleased and were so glad it took us to the M Shed! What an amazing place, we were so interested in the recent history of Bristol and as the childrens grandmother came from Bristol, they were interested too! We could have spent a small fortune in the shop and very helpful staff, will certainly visit again!

I loved this place and don’t really understand the negative reviews. I especially recommend it for people who already live in Bristol, as it provides a detailed history of all the different districts within the city plus history of the slave trade within Bristol. And there is a large map printed on the floor of the first gallery where you can find your own street!

It’s also incredibly interactive, complete with a dressing up box and old-school vehicles to clamber into. On the top floor is an exhibition gallery with a display of award winning contemporary portrait photographs; also very interesting. The view from the top floor balcony is also breaktaking, with the scenery spanning across the floating harbour.

This place is perfect for those ‘Did-You-Know’ facts of Bristol and provides lovely afternoon entertainment for all ages. Plus it’s free!

Only explored the free stuff, and found the history of Bristol interesting. Our little boy enjoyed walking round the old bus in particular. Not too bad for a freebie really.
