It's not often I find a Best Western that is tired and lacking but this one certainly was. A great location near the city centre, a free on site car park were sadly the highlights. My room was in a side building with poor outer lighting for access. Up two flights of wearing carpeted stairs I found myself in a decent sized room but definately on the tired side. Tiny TV, basic bathroom , clean but basically tired.
Staff were not overly smart but did have a smile. Breakfast was passable [strange eggs?] but ok.
The hotel has great potential but for the moment not one I would recommend

Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed the hotel’s location & the free car parking. We are in the process of updating our bedrooms with feature walls, wallpaper, artwork etc. Many have been done already and we are hoping to complete on the last few by the end of January. This Winter we are also planning to redecorate the hallways & dining rooms. We keep our rates as competitive as possible for the location and offer standard doubles & large doubles. We have poached & scrambled eggs served at breakfast. I do hope you will choose us again in the future.

Kind regards,

Michael Hamilton

I have been a regular guest at this hotel for several years now and never look any further. Kristie and the rest of the staff are friendly helpful and pleased to assist in making your stay welcoming and comfortable. The location is ideal also; just a two minute walk into Clifton village if you fancy boutique restaurants, wine bars or old English pubs.

Stayed here on number of occasions in both buildings and both in the gods and in the basement. As the stairs may be an issue for some people I am sure a suitable room could be arranged in advance to avoid any such problems. I can however vouch for the consistency in facilities, quality and cleanliness throughout the hotel. I can also recommend the relaxed warmth and friendliness of the staff and the quality breakfast. There is free parking if spaces are available and the hotel is in a lovely area of Bristol. I was happy to walk from the hotel to Millenium Square and back on a daily basis which can be 12 minutes down through the back streets or longer past the shops down Queens Road and Park Street, many peoples favourite shopping street in Bristol.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but you may wish to avoid the stairs. I have never had a bad room here.

I struggle with stairs and this hotel has no lift. I rang in advance and was given a ground floor room (with about 5 steps to the front door). This was done very helpfully and tactfully. They even offered to perhaps bring us breakfast but I did not need that level of help!

The hotel is 2 star presumably because it is listed and they can't change some features. However the service is very good. The bed we had was huge and really comfy. The room was nicely decorated, clean, spacious and had an en suite, hairdryer, phone and was very quiet.

Victoria Square is lovely, right on the edge of the shopping area of Clifton which is just lovely. There are lots of shops and eateries, mostly small independents. All in all a fantastic place for a short break. Breakfast was fine - continental and full english served as a buffet. The car park is small but easy to use; if full you would have to find a space on the street nearby, which might take a while as the only thing spoiling Clifton is the amount of parked cars. Every house must have 7 cars, 1 drive and no garage.

We were given a great rate too: £57 for 2 with full breakfast. Very happy and will definitely return.

I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us! We do not have a lift so I am very pleased that the front of house team allocated you a suitable ground floor room. I am glad you enjoyed the service, the room and the location. Our 2* rating is based on only having a restaurant open 4 nights a week (we close it at the weekend as there are so many excellent restaurants close by in Clifton which we find everyone wishes to explore!). Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We hope to be able to welcome you back to the hotel again soon!

One of our return visits to the Victoria Square hotel, ideally situated in the prime village - like area of Clifton with world heritage Clifon suspension bridge, Avon Gorge, excellent West of England Gallery , cafe/restaurant/ shops. Rooms are all of good standard and of varying sizes both in the main house and the similar house next door. Good ensuites. Quiet location. Rooms with tea/ coffee making facilities, biscuits, colour TV. Friendly welcoming staff. Good breakfast . A new lounge added. Car park will take about 20 cars and FREE unlike some hotels in this and other areas. You can park free in the square or in a street to the rear of the hotel if this car park is full ( it often is) . Evening meals are available on Mondays- Thursdays ONLY. No lift in either the main house or the house next door. A hotel we will be happy to continue using.

Stayed one Saturday night for leisure. Standard double in the main building, found it perfectly formed with lovely soft sheets, comfy bed and good shower (only 2 baths in the hotel). Spotlessly clean. Hotel felt welcoming and well cared for, everything seemed in good order. Lady on front desk was friendly and helpful. Didn't have breakfast, mainly as wanted to meet a friend who wasn't staying. Great location, looks out over the square, 2 minutes walk to Clifton Village and about 10 minutes down the hill to Clifton Triangle. Although the hotel was busy didn't hear anything from neighbouring rooms. Would stay again although might pay the extra £10 approx for a large double, then again it's just a room for the night so probably wouldn't!

Very welcoming hotel, couldn;t fault the staff who all made use feel very welcome and at home. We had a large double in the main building which was very spacious, i think one of the ones featured on the website. Nice touches like complimentary fresh milk available and sented candles in the lobby. Great location in Clifton about 10 mins walk to the suspension bridge. Primrose Cafe accross the way was lovely for lunch and very reasonable.
Would definitely return & recommend.

Room Tip: large double was very nice, cant remember room number but had green wallpaper!
