Owner description: The Matthew is a replica of the Tudor ship sailed by John Cabot from Bristol 'discover' North America in 1497. The ship runs regular public trips and is available for private hire. When the ship is not sailing she is open 10am - 4pm, Tuesday - Sunday. History: After receiving a charter from Henry VII Venetian merchant John Cabot led a crew from Bristol across the Atlantic Ocean - 'the sea of darkness' - to reach the continent of North America, presumably landing at Newfoundland, and claiming the discovery for the king. The Matthew you see today is a replica of the Tudor ship, based on a huge amount of research. The ship was built between 1994 & 1996 and in 1997 it re-enacted Cabot's original journey to Newfoundland to mark the 500th anniversary of Cabot's landmark voyage of discovery.

So glad we chose the Matthew for a jaunt around Bristol harbour, it's such a lovely looking ship to explore, we really felt like sailors!!!! The staff were very helpful and informative about the ship's history and the bonus was we got to sail with their resident Gromit!!! Lovely trip.

We were in Bristol as part of Gromit Unleashed. We were delighted to find not only was there a Gromit on The Matthew, but that we were allowed on free of charge!
Its is beautful and is an amazing site on the water and were grateful for the information posted telling you the history.
A little gem!

We hired the Matthew for a private client event in August 2013,this was the second year we have done so. The staff were all very helpful and we had a lovely 4 hour trip along the Avon Gorge. We received fantastic feedback from all the clients who attended.

We took the Harbour Trip on The Matthew during the weekend of the Harbour Festival. We thought it was good value at £10 per head and a great way to see the festival and harbour from the perspective of the water. Unfortunately for us the heavens opened 5 minutes into our trip, but it was still a fantastic experience even in the rain!! Highly recommended.

I booked The Matthew for a surprise Fish n Chip sailing supper for my parent's combined 70th Birthdays It was booked a few weeks in advance and I paid upfront in full for six people.
Today, three days before the meal I got a phone call to say they couldn't get enough numbers and they will have to cancel the supper. Very disappointed. Why advertise, if you can't deliver?
