We have not visited the station for some time.......it was a favourite with the grandchildren. This is a great example of the enthusiasm of volunteers with a love of the steam train. Money has been raised by them, grants from local parish councils and businesses all spent to make this a great place to visit by so many. There are trains standing at the station and old engines waiting for T.L.C. My husband needed cheering up after a knee operation he also needed some light exercise. So lunch at the cafe seemed a good idea. The menu has a great choice of favourite dishes - ham off the bone, egg and chips cheered him up. I had freshly battered fish and chips and the jacket potatoes looked delicious too. Memory Mondays?? do you remember spam fritters or corned beef hash call on a Monday and revive old memories. They serve O.A.P roast on Wednesdays. This is a great place to start a cycle ride to Bath or Bristol being about equa distance - call in for a biker's box and then have a cuppa on your return. Home made cakes and toasted tea cakes.................Children catered for too. There is a small children's playground near the station so all in all great value for money. Enjoyable visit and happy hubby.

I am not a railway anorak, but the station at Bitton is usually busy at a weekend and trains pulled by both disel and steam locomotives run regularly, Railway buffs might be dissapointed as there is only a few miles of track..The cafe is reasonably priced and f the weather is not great you can eat and drink in a railway carrriage. If the weather is good take the cyclepath towards Saltford and Bath, but if you are nervous possibly best avoid weekends.

We took grandchildren who became restless & bored, as it (obviously) takes time to get going. This was likely due to their age and probably suits younger children.
We were VERY disappointed at the Xmas theme.....it just wasn't good enough, I've seen many people's houses look more festive than the station train etc put together!
The scenery on route is nice, but the station and car park seemed scruffy and there there is little/nothing to do between rides having some entertainment (short films, train activities/games) at the station (with a small charge) would benefit users and organisers.
However I am certain that any train enthusiast would absolutely enjoy a visit.

I was given a driver experience course as a birthday present. It involved about 2 1/2 hours on the footplate, both firing and driving a steam loco. The footplate crew, Grahame and Andy, were very good, patient, and polite. We went up the line from Bitton four times, (there were two of us doing it, and we each had two goes driving and firing) and then four trips down the line to Riverside. It was hot, hard work, noisy, shaking and rattling all the way, and I loved it!
