Firstly this hotel in a fantastic location. Close walking distance to the zoo, Clifton and about 30mins from the town centre.

Upon arrival we checked in with no problems and were given keys to three separate rooms.
Room 1: Had not been cleaned, hair in bed and bins not emptied which resulted in a debate with duty manager to have the room changed
Room 2: Door did not shut properly and cleaners left it open one day with valuables exposed inside
Room 3: One light bulb of three worked, tea, coffee, milk etc had not been replenished and no mug or spoon!

Rooms in general were not clean. Beds and pillows had no mattress or pillow protectors. TV's were either at a hard angle to view or had wires stretched across walls to reach plugs.
The bed was comfortable and shower and bathroom adequate. The bar has a cosy atmosphere and good choice of drinks but stopped serving food at 7.

On our second morning and day of departure the service was excellent from the lady who manages the hotel, much more so than the previous lady who had argued about a room with full bins and hair in the bed to be 'clean'.

Breakfast was of a good standard despite a hair or two!
Free wifi was of a good strength and accessible throughout the hotel.
I hope the pictures I upload depict my stay and allow you make an informed decision.

Would I stay here again? No.
Was it ideal location for a business trip? Yes
Was it worth £60 a night for a double room? NO!
Does this hotel have potential? YES! If only it were invested in and cared for a bit more!

Room Tip: Book somewhere else?

This place was so lovely. The staff were so friendly, the food was delicious and the location was bang in the middle of everywhere which is worth going in Bristol. It is an 8 minute walk from the Zoo which is awesome. The rooms were clean and tidy and well decorated. I had a very romantic time!

Room Tip: There isnt a swimming pool at Channings, but the Lido is right round the corner!

Lovely room, very big comfy bed, clean and tidy. Only problem was the TV wasn't angled toward the bed and quite difficult to work. No other complaints whatsoever! Location was fab, Clifton is a very smart place and this hotel is within walking distance of the main street. Perfect!

I was a little skeptical when I booked having read other reviews but I have to say all the positives were borne out when we stayed here. It's a lovely old building, big rooms, high ceilings and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the food was great! We had a light, airy room with a king size bed and a single bed. 3 large windows, wooden blinds and the only bit of the room that was 'run down' was where there had been a leak and the ceiling paper was stained and buckled. I'd be happy to stay again.

I stay here regularly. The staff are great, the rooms clean and comfortable and very well priced. The actual bar is lively but not noisy from the rooms. Food is good and the range of drinks extensive. Located in a smart road close to the centre of Clifton I havent missed or regretted anything. Will continue to frequent the hotel so please make sure you leave some space for me.
