“Perfect Perfect Perfect!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We stayed at this gorgeous little b&b for my partner's 40th, the weekend before Christmas. Everything was perfect about this place. The staff was courteous and helpful, the room itself (we stayed in number 5) was small but exceptional with everything you could want, and the location was great. Even the awful weather couldn't spoil our break. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Room 5 has a great view over the roofs of Clifton, a fab shower and roll top bath.

This simply was the most romantic, stunning and perfect room ever - and we've both seen a lot of hotels. From the friendly and helpful service when we showed up early, to the delicious breakfast the day after, we can't fault it at all. Even the Lido spa was good (although in our opinion overhyped - they obviously haven't seen the Thermae Bath Spa yet, albeit it being in Bath and not Bristol) but OH MY WORD that suite... The decor is simply spectacular, in that homely way... it's not a palace, but a home away from home and should we ever visit Bristol again, we wouldn't even look around for anything else, as it's impossible to believe there'd be anything better, more relaxing, out there.

When you stay here - definitely try and catch sunset at the nearby Clifton Suspension Bridge - it takes about 15-20 mins to walk there (out of the door left, keep going), and a minute or 5 before it, the pedestrian path goes up right, offering you the most amazing views!

We had lunch at Rockfish and dinner at Aqua - the first offering delicious fresh sea food, while the latter must be one of the best looking restaurants in Bristol - and the lobster was delicious too. Thanks Number Thirty Eight for the recommendations!

Room Tip: Suite #2 is the one that you see in many of the nice press reviews - dark walls, amazing copper bath...

After reading lots of reviews on here and finding this amazing place on www.roomforromance.com, this was a treat for my husbands birthday.

We stayed in room 1 on the top floor. When we walked in we were simply blown away, particularly as my husband had not seen any photo's before. We loved everything about the room, the bed was huge, the bath was big enough for two! and the views from the front of the Clifton downs were beautiful and from the back we woke up to a beautiful sunrise. We were very impressed with breakfast, the service was excellent (the hotel was full) and we had plenty of pastries, juices etc to eat until our cooked breakfast was served, in fact we were stuffed by the time we had finished.

Clifton village and the supension bridge was a 20-30 minute walk away with some great views from the bridge, and in the village there are lots of nice bars, pubs and quaint shops. We had already booked to have dinner at The Clifton Sausage and we were not disappointed. If you like sausages you have to give this a go.

Overall a fantasic B&B, probably the nicest room we have stayed at in this country and a great romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Room 1 or 2 are a must, top floor!

Number Thirty Eight is now our number one choice for a stopover in Bristol.
I can't really add much to the glowing reviews.......everything is simplistically just right.
From the friendly greeting at reception, to the breakfast cooked to order and delivered by a smiling waitress, our one night stay was enough to make us want to return.

Room Tip: The rooms are the rear overlook the roof tops to the far side of Bristol. Ones at the front are pos...

Elegant boutique B&B with smart rooms and tasteful decor. Attentive and efficient staff who recommended and booked a local restaurant for dinner. Wonderful freshly cooked breakfasts! Parking on road outside free but busy.

We stayed here for a weekend between Christmas and New Year. The B&B is lovely we took a superior room below ground level (no 7 I think). The room was gorgeous, the bed huge and comfy. The bathroom, which is almost as big as the room had a roll top bath with an amazing view of Bristol. Breakfast is excellent with the most delicious (I think homemade) compote on offer with the continental breakfast and a full cooked breakfast menu. I had only one or two things which could have helped us have a nicer stay - no bin in the bathroom, no over bath rack or area to put soaps etc when you are in the bath pretty minor but annoying to put your soap bar on the floor as there is nowhere else. Probably the most irritating thing about this room in particular is it is below the breakfast area so you can hear people busying about immediately above you from about 7am... so not ideal if you want a lie in. Other than that loved it and if in the area would definitely go back but in another room!

Room Tip: Do not take room 7, go for the rooms above ground level on the upper floors.

We had 3 nights at No. 38 to be close to friends in Clifton who had invited us for Xmas festivities.
We were not sure what to expect as we have rarely stayed in any B&Bs over the last 40 years tending more towards 4/5* hotels.
This is more of a high class boutique hotel rather than a B&B and it was outstanding in every respect.
Our room (#1) which was on the top floor was well worth needing to climb the stairs, with views over the downs on one side and a panoramic view over Bristol on the other, with excellent double glazing, as located on a busy road.
The main room with a sitting area and big comfortable bed, and bathroom were large, well presented and well equipped.
The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant, and even adjusted our bedding based on their observation of how we configured it without having to be asked to do so.
Breakfasts were the some of the best I have EVER had in over 40 years of travel whether for both business or pleasure.
It was so good that we arranged for our Bristol friends to join us on the last morning, something the staff arranged for us without hesitation, despite a busy Xmas period and being fully booked.
Parking was easy in front and free wifi (a pet peeve of mine) made it an absolutely perfect stay.
I could not understand why anyone would not have Number 38 as their number 1 choice in Bristol.
