“Brunel's triumph”

When you visit the SS Great Britain you do not see just the ship. There is a very informative, interactive and atmospheric museum to experience before boarding. Once outside the ship appears to be afloat as she is surrounded by a water filled glass canopy. I recommend you hire the audio guide as it adds so much to the understanding of life on board. They have gone to great pains to recreate what travellers would have experienced in the various sections - watch out for some of the smells! This is a good place to while away several hours.

“Day out on our reunion”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

We really enjoyed this attraction. You go through a small museum area before going aboard ship. The ship has been done really well. Each area is kitted out as it would have appeared in the 1800s. Well worth the money. There is a cafe just outside before purchasing your tickets so everything is on hand.

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality, depth and information contained within this visit. It's a stop on the sightseeing bus, or a 30 minute walk along the river from the town centre, which can easily be punctuated with food and drink stops or better still a (£1.50 each) river taxi is a great way to absorb the atmosphere and sights along the river on a dry day. The sight of the Great Britain is fantastic from a distance, but this is only the start of the journey. I won't spoil the surprise of what enfolds when you enter, but what you are not told is how the visit is a theif of time. Two hours were swolled up in the blink of an eye, so set plenty of time aside. Its worth a visit whatever the weather, but on a dry day with a little bit of sun, what fun! A must see for adults and children alike. You will be surprised how it fits into your history and the start of its journey back home. At £12.50 for a twelve month pass, its well worth the investment and a must see.

“Genuinely surprised at the quality of presentation”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

I've been to a lot of similar attractions, so I was pleasantly surprised at how well presented it is. There are several interactive elements: steer a ships wheel in front of a large projected screen; collect "passport stamps" along the way; a top-hatted man talking about the various food eaten onboard. I'd thoroughly recommend this if you have children (or even if you are a big kid).
