Description: Bright and colourful, the Souk Kitchen on North Street is a vibrant eatery that has brought a brand new style of dining to the Bristol restaurant scene. Encouraging people to share and to try new things, the menu at the Souk Kitchen is filled with small plates, mezze, dips, tagines, salads and grill dishes that are inspired by the traditional souks of Damascus, Marrakech and Beirut. Created using aromatic produce such as preserved lemons, tahini, honey and orange blossom, this is a stellar, moreish menu that you and your family and friends will love. The dcor at the Souk Kitchen is an eclectic mix of candy-coloured wallpaper and shelves stacked with ingredients including couscous, saffron and rosewater.

“Lovely food but disappointed with the service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

I have been to the Souk many times and thoroughly enjoy the delicious food. We often recommend the venue to friends and have taken lots of friends and family there as the menu is diverse and a little bit different. However on our most recent visit we were very disappointed with the service. Having booked for a special birthday meal we were asked to hurry up as the table was rebooked afterwards. I understand that it is a busy place but we booked well in advance not at the last minute and would have appreciated being told before our meal that we needed to finish by a set time. To be honest it ruined what would have been a nice night. Genuinely not sure I would want to go back, which is a shame as the food is great.

“Excellent food - staff not quite spot on”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

Fancying something a bit different and having heard some fantastic reviews, we recently made a trip to Souk for dinner and we weren't disppointed. Even though I wouldn't say this was my cuisine of choice, I felt that the food really won me over - there was a good choice of meats (and halloumi if you are vegetarian, it was delicious!). The main portions perhaps a bit small but as we had starters, I wasn't too bothered. The prices seemed fair enough to me for dinner.

As others have commented, the main drawback here seems to be the staff who are very hit and miss from what I can gather. The lady who served us was fine but really didn't try to make any conversation or go 'the extra mile', which is something I like.

I'd definitely return and recommend this place to my friends.

“Yum”

What a surprise - you look from the outside and see typical modern gastrocafe but when you sit down you find it is all middle eastern food. Gorgeous middle eastern food. We had a mixed mezze with all the usual suspects but served unusually delicious. A side order of octopus - soft and served with cardomon spiced giant couscous; gorgeous. Dessert of hullalabia (or something like that) which was a mildly chocolatey, mildly creamy panna cotta-type thing with sour cherries and coulis; gorgeous. And another dessert of yoghurt cake - like a baked cheescake with cardomon, pistachios, cinamon and a yellow rhubarb sauce. Guess what that was like?

“Very enjoyable night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

We decided to go here for dinner as part of a recent stayover in Bristol. We shared the beetroot salad (one of the specials) and spinach bistilla to start, then for mains we had chicken tagine and stuffed aubergine and finally we shared the meringue and rosewater desert. Everything tasted amazing and would happily work our way through the menu if we lived in Bristol! Great food, good service, nice ambience and very good value.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

Really good freshly cooked and prepared middle-eastern food. The flatbread with chef's dips was great, as was the Persian fish curry. Wouldn't hesitate to go back again to discover more of the menu.
