“good leisure hotel in city centre”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

stayed for a weekend in january. a bit hard to find but suprisingly pleasant hotel to stay in a city awash with chain hotel options. the check-in was efficient and speedy and the room was clean and well furnished. breakfast was of a good standard with plenty of choice and the restaurant was a good option for a weekend breakfast albeit busy so pick your time to eat.earlier the better but not always best on a weekend break!

Dear blackpoolwhenimsixty ,

Thank you for your feedback on your stay.

It is nice to see that another guest of ours liked our location, the cleanliness of the room and the service of our staff both at Reception and at breakfast .

Being a preferred hotel in the city by many, our buffet is very popular and it gets busy sometime despite serving breakfast between 7.30am and 10.30am on Saturdays and Sundays , I do agree that eating earlier may be more beneficial especially that everybody tends to visit toward the end of service . Alternatively why not try the Room Service option till 11am if fancy a lay-in and a bit more privacy.

Hope to see you soon to give our fabulous buffet another go especially when
you can have omelettes and pancakes freshly made in front of you. Unmissable!

Kind Regards

Stayed one night on business. As we were walking into the hotel, one of the staff showed us the way to reception, very helpful.

Check in was good & I was upgraded.

The rooms are modern, clean, well appointed. HD TV, DVD player, iPod dock on the alarm clock. The lighting was good, good desk & chair. Bathroom & shower, excellent.

The food in the restaurant for dinner was excellent as was the service. Breakfast was a self service buffet, the food was really good quality & the fried egg yokes were still runny!

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Executive room

Dear RMAllen42,

Thank you for your review. .

We are pleased that you found our Concierge and Reception service helpful as well as that the room was to your liking.
They are very clean and modern but also make you feel comfortable to suit all needs from families to business travellers.

As you enjoyed you dinner in our Spot Restaurant , you may be interested to know that we are changing our menu soon but also will carry on with our Daily Specials which offer variety as well as good value to the existing options.

We are also open for lunch including for Mother's Day just around the corner so perhaps when you do return you may want to try lunch as well. Otherwise you do not need to stay to book a table with us, just call the hotel direct.

I stayed in this hotel with my wife from Friday 8 th to 10 th February 2013. We arrived in Bristol Airport and took the Airport Flyer into town. It is a short walk from the Bus Terminus to the hotel but you might need a local to point you in the right direction. The bus driver recommended a route of about 300n meters across a couple of busy roads. This was an alternative to using the pedestrian subway which crosses a sunken garden/park what is known locally as the" Bear Pit" . This park is inhabited by what appeared to be some rough sleepers or alcoholics and operated as a base for some sort of soup kitchen on the Saturday morning of our stay. I crossed the park on several occasions over the weekend and was not hassled in any way.
The hotel reception was efficient and the building felt safe and secure. We were upgraded to Premier room which was excellent. It came with comfortable beds , flat screen TV and rain shower. The room was really spacious, clean and serviced on both mornings of our stay. I am a light sleeper and although there was some music noise from a bar at the back of the building I had an excellent night sleep. We did not eat in the hotel which was pretty full with other guests but still quiet. The staff that I met were friendly and polite.
The shops etc of Bristol are an easy walk from the hotel but it is a 20 minute hike down to the waterfront.
In summary a really decent hotel in a slightly worn part of Bristol. Easily accessible by public transport from the airport ,close to the Cabbot Centre but bit of a yomp to the river etc

Room Tip: If you do not want to be disturbed by the Backpackers Bar which is behind the hotel ask for a room a...

Normally stay at another venue in Bristol but on my last stay it was full so I stayed at the HI City Centre - a great alternative. At first it was a bit hard to find as the hotel only lists the street without a numeric location but if you can overcome this hurdle it is smooth sailing from there. Parking is available right next to the hotel in the public facility with one small area reserved for the hotel. The rooms are spacious and sound proof and the elevator access is activated with your room key (at times I find this somewhat annoying) although it is a bit strange the elevator can only be signaled with a "down" arrow even if you want/need to go up, the fitness room is well equiped looking out over the busy round about outside the hotel and the breakfast buffet is quite extensive with eggs and pancakes made to order! I am usually wary of automatic coffee machines but this one produces a reasonably good cup. The staff are helpful and the main part of the city is within walking distance.

Room was great had everything we needed for a one night stay. The bed was to hard and left us both with sore backs.
Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Great to have the car park located below the hotel. We would recommend having a meal with in the hotel.

Excellent city centre location, modern decor throughout in bedrooms and public areas.

Stayed on recent business trip but will return for pleasure, this lovely hotel has onsite parking and is located across the road from the excellent shopping centre - Cabot Circus. Easy access from M4/ M32.

The hotel is only two years old and still feels brand new throughout. The rooms are spacious and modern, excellent shower area, workspace with all usual facilities provided by HI. Large LCD TV, safe, aircon and tea/coffee facilities.

Myself and colleague used the resturaunt for breakfast & dinner. the resturaunt staff were excellent and friendly, food @ dinner and breakfast were fresh and plentifull. The well stocked bar area next to resturaunt had a large pull-down screen, ideal for sport and a quieter area overlooking the city. The main public areas are on 2nd floor with a modern open aspect gym on 1st floor, both with lovely views out over the city centre.

Nothing to fault in my opinion, will definately return in future.

Room Tip: High floor rooms at front of hotel provide lovely views over city

Just back from a 2 night break at Holiday Inn, Bristol City Centre. Would recommend this hotel. Very central ( 4 mins walk to main bus station, with airport links, 2 mins to the shops). We had a twin room - our pillows were absolutely fine! Room spotless. Breakfast was great. Each member of staff was pleasant, polite and courteous. The two guys who manned the concierge desk answered all our questions most helpfully. I used the gym - again it was very clean and all the equipment was working. We arrived early and were checked in immediately - we appreciated this.
A great hotel. Couldn't fault it!
