“Good hotel, Bad Beer.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013 via mobile

Overall this hotel is very good. We stayed here as a stag party. The hotel was very clean and staff were mainly friendly. My only issue was when we told them the beer was off (tasted like toffee apple cider) when we complained the bar staff said it tastes fine. And wouldn't change the pint. Also a pint with cost you £4.60

Quickly then, don't take a room on the 10th floor, no water pressure and cold showers.
Gym is very well equipped but can be busy at peak times.
The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are welcome, but just a bit grubby, there is a lot footfall and not all of it that savoury.. Don't come here if you want to relax with a girl/boy friend and get steamy etc
Breakfast is over priced. However a brilliant thing this hotel offers is a great executive room. Just 20 quid extra you get a room to use with comfy chairs, tv, free drinks from 5pm, canapés from 5.30pm, free soft drinks all day, free breakfast, Internet, and a newspaper.. It's a no brainier.. Do it!
Close to shops in Cabot Circus but a bit of a walk from the nicer bits of Bristol.
Parking is in a grotty ncp next door but not too dear for a city centre..
Saying all that, stay at the Marriott Royal if you're sticking with this chain..
Otherwise there are other good options like hotel du vin or as I'm increasingly finding, a serviced apartment

Room Tip: Don't take the 10th floor at any costs

Good helpful reception desk staff, having stayed here a few times now I can't fault them for the info given or queries answered.

A good check-in experience, even when crowded with a conf on, iced drinks at reception a nice touch and four staff on the desk when it was busy rather than one or two.

Good quiet rooms, nice food - friendly breakfast staff always smiling.

No qualms with the three rooms I've stayed at so far at this Marriott, all been clean, tidy and fully functional.

The positives - Clean, friendly staff, good location and a comfy bed. With those elements in place, you will not go too far wrong.

The not so positives -

The leisure facilities are a bit busy and dated, and the compact nature of the sauna and steam room makes it feel like you may as well have crawled into your home oven alongside the sunday dinner. Also, access to the facilities is through the bar- it did not bother me too much but the couples trying to have a romantic drink may have preferred not to see my hairy white legs shuffle past them as they tried to enjoy their wine.

Breakfast was edible, but not very inspiring - having said that, while the bacon had seen the grill it must have been from the other side of the kitchen.

In fact the whole place lacked much inspiration and for the price (we paid nearly £90 for one night in a standard double room) we would have hoped for a little more.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the first time this past weekend, we would not have any complaints. The hotel is rated a 4* and lives up to its rating. It was very clean throughout. We stayed on level 2 and was very pleased with the room size. I've read below people complained that you could hear the road from outside, this was true in the day but by night the roads were fairly quiet so was fine. Only downfall I would have is the pillows, but that's just like any other hotel. Breakfast was a great Buffett and the food was delicious. We made use of the pool which was lovely for an afternoon swim. This is a hotel in excellent location with the shopping centre literally on your doorstep and the harbour only a 20minute walk/10 minute drive. Car park was rather expensive at 12.50 a day but cheaper than any other car parks anywhere nearby. Overall this was a great hotel and I would defiantly recommend.

Myself and my daughter stayed here on a Saturday night for a welcome night away! Didn't start off to great by a 30 minute delay on our room being ready, even though we were over an hour later checking in than we had specified. We stayed on the second floor, our room was very average and not as clean as you would expect from Marriott, room was in dire need of updating and could have done with a good clean, bed was comfortable but pillows were not that fresh white clean looking condition you would like, more of a grey grubby look about them but they did the job i guess! Carpet had seen better days and could have benefitted from a a good scrub, along one side of bed carpet was sticky underfoot....not particularly pleasant experience when stupping out of bed barefoot....ewwweeeee! We would normally use a premier inn but felt we would enjoy a little more luxury...big mistake the only luxury we got was a lighter bank balance. Will never use a Marriott again our expectations were high but standards in experience low.
