Where do I begin with this review? We booked a special offer weekend, 2 nights bed and breakfast and dinner on the first night for £178 in a classic room. On arrival we parked in the underground car park and made our way up to reception, where we were greeted with a very welcoming glass of wine while we checked in. We have stayed in five star hotels where this little extra touch is not provided so well done Marriott for an excellent first impression. Our room was on the top floor and was lovely and cosy and spotlessly clean. Dinner on the first night was wonderful with an excellent choice of menu and the waiting staff were really attentive. We chose room service breakfast which, although we were on the top floor of the hotel, arrived promptly and piping hot. I chose smoked haddock with poached eggs and hubby had eggs benedict and they were divine. After a full day in Bristol we returned to the cosy lounge bar for a leisurely drink before a well earned soak in our lovely corner bath. Dinner was taken yet again in the hotel restaurant where we were advised to choose the mussels for starters as they were fresh in that afternoon. We did and certainly weren't disappointed. They were delicious, and so was the rest of the meal. Once again, service was superb, the staff at this hotel certainly go the extra mile to make you feel at ease and welcome. Breakfast next morning was room service again as the hotel seemed full and we didn't fancy queuing for it. Once again, excellent, this time hubby chose steak and eggs and said they were delicious. Not having to check out until 12 was an added bonus and so we did a little more shopping before leaving. We will definitely return here. A lovely indulgent little pre-Christmas break in a beautiful hotel.

Bang in the centre of Bristol within walking distance of lots of food, drink and shopping, this is a smart hotel. A high room provided views over harbour and south of city. Took advantage of a weekend special rate including two breakfasts and a meal for two (max. value GBP 50) on the first night. All food was very good but would have been expensive without special deal. Room was what you would hope for though perhaps the mattress was not quite up to Marriott's usual standard. Swimming pool looked great though we were too busy having fun to use it. Service was very pleasant and though they got the bill wrong it was quickly corrected. Been there before, hope to return.

Room Tip: Higher the better for views

This hotel commands a truly enviable location for visitors to the centre of Bristol, is perfect for tourists, visitors to the magnificent Cathedral & University, also for commerce too , ideally sited for conferences being not too far from Bristol Temple Meads Station- its grandiose facade plus interior decor all add to a feeling of richness when entering.

On this occasion it was morning coffee that we popped in for - reception staff - cold/seating area around bar/coffee - cold (despite there being a welcoming fire), coffee & tea - lukewarm.

The bit that really lets the whole place down was descending the not too clean stairway to the basement/spa area toilets - very grim, grubby walls - the loos whilst surface clean had toilet pans that would be expected in local public loos - limescale & grime embedded. Certainly not something that had occurred overnight but had been left to build up into such a sub-standard condition.

Please if anyone from this hotel is interested in customers comments - take this onboard - despite the whole toilet/spa area being much overdue for a refurbishment - there is never, ever any excuse for this lack lustre effort in the cleaning department. Simple remedy, limescale remover, toilet brush & elbow grease - head of housekeeping should hang their heads in shame.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel for three nights. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The hotel is located in the center of the city, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and Colston Hall. I will definitely stay at this property whenever I return to the area.

If you want to stay in a fantastic hotel close to the harbour you must choose this fantastic Victorian Hotel. Great location, great staff good food. Here for a conference which can be sometimes disappointing but on this occasion everything was perfect.

The bed sags in the middle, which makes for an uncomfortable night's sleep for two heavy people. It is surprising for this hotel, where beds are normally firm. Also the room faces outward, and is only on the second floor, so traffic noise from Anchor Road can clearly be heard, as you struggle to find a comfortable position on the soft mattress. In the bathroom the sink's "marble" worktop is caked with years of limescale at the base of the taps. Otherwise, the bedroom and bathroom function well and are clean and comfortable.

The hotel's restaurant has never been busy on the occasions when I have eaten dinner there and the food has been excellent. Breakfast by contrast is busier.

Room Tip: Room 1219 has a sagging bed and at night traffic noise can clearly be heard.

The Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel is one those special historic hotels that when visiting this area you should take advantage of.The rooms are large and most enjoyable. The front desk staff are most helpful. The breakfasts are unbelievable . You name it and it is there for you. The location is superb and with easy walking distance of the High Street shops and restaurants are also very easy to reach by foot.

Room Tip: I think that all the rooms are quite special.
