“Acceptable Marriott but pricey”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Spent one night here. Took 15 mins to check in, 3 receptionists working, but were not as efficient as other Marriotts.
Room was a very standard Marriott Room, bathroom was clean but tired and shower water pressure not impressive. Bed was comfortable.
Room overlooked major road with traffic pulling up hill to a set of traffic lights, so noise of traffic did not make for a good nights sleep. Breakfast was standard Marriott fare, nothing exceptional but acceptable.
Car park is very tight with blind kerbs, looking at the damage to the kerbs a lot of cars have damaged their alloys getting in and out. The actual car spaces are tiny, so I would advise heading down a couple of levels to find more space.
Sadly the price of this hotel is very high and given the overall experience unjustified,

nice hotel, but rooms and decor are a little dated and could do with a face lift. i think you would find similar hotels in bristol cheaper. staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, i would say 7 out of 10 overall as somewhere to stay.

stayed for a conference. Reception staff were friendly and check in was fast. The room was clean and to a good standard. Ordered room service and this arrived before they said it would and was of a good quality. Breakfast was excellent and it was good it was a buffet style breakfast.

I would recommend this hotel for a stay and as a conference venue

This hotel stands on College Green and looks impressive.
It does look great and reception is nice, our room was quite big and comfortable.
There is a mini bar in the room and we fancied a drink at the end of the journey - the mini bar was empty. There was a sign on the front of it saying if we wanted it filled we should call reception, so we stopped at reception on the way out for a drink and asked for the minibars (we had two rooms) to be filled. We returned an hour later - checked the mini bar and it was empty - so was the one in the other room. We called reception and was told that if we wanted the mini bars filled there was a charge of £75 each minibar and we would have bought the contents and should take it all with us when we leave. THIS IS A JOKE!!! We complained but reception could not care less - rules are rules - if it had been a £75 deposit then I would have thought it odd but paid it but to be told I had to buy the entire contents - unbelievable. We were told we could use room service to order drinks BUT there would be a £4.50 charge on top of each order. I felt I was in sketch from Faulty Towers ('what sort of crummy place is this?) - we put up with it but would not return to this or any Marriott.
The restaurant has been recently refurbished by someone with no imagination - typical boring city centre restaurant. In the evening we ate in the restaurant as we could not find anything close by that was a reasonable standard - the quality of the food was very good but there are many tables and we were sat at one of three occupied tables. The evening was livened up when the automatic fire shutter on the window went up and down three times and the adjacent flashing strobe light blinded us - the waitress said 'it was supposed to do that'. When I assumed her it was not 'supposed to do that' she got her line manager who apologised and said that they were having problems.
Breakfast in the morning was very good.

This is in a great location and the rooms are large by UK stds. Overall the staff was great; however the initial check in agent was not very nice. The decor is a little dated, also, we were in a QUIET courtyard room, but is hosted a wedding one night that supplied very load noise until 12:00 midnight.

We had a 2 night stay here and we were really impressed with the quality of the hotel. It is not a modern hotel but one with plenty of character and some modern twists. Our room was very spacious with a large bathroom and air conditioning.(Nice to see take out cups so early morning we can take a coffee away) Decor was very pleasant and the restaurant served a really nice breakfast , with the unusual twist that it had both un-sweetened and sweetened soya milk which is an absolute rarity as we have not come across a Hilton or Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza that serves both, also the serving staff were very accomodating and helpful.
As for the location of the hotel it is ideal for the harbourfront and all that offers with its bars/restaurants , Cabot Centre is about a 10/15 minute walk away depends how quick you walk , and all the restaurants of White Ladies Road are really handy - uphill to get there and build up an appetite but an easy stroll back.
All in all a hotel I definitely would recommend , also it has a large car park that is secure , a bit pricey at £12.50 per day but you are in the city centre so I suppose its the going rate.

Room Tip: King Size Rooms were very spacious and very quiet

We stayed for one night (weekend). There were no issues with the room. It was well presented, clean, quiet and had a comfortable bed. However, we got a room facing the road at the back of the hotel (so not much to look at), but I guess that's what you get when you book late. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was superb (awesome choice of different things). Would happily stay again.
