We stayed for one night, the room was fine, not that big but it was only one night, the temperature just right, all staff we met were friendly and helpful, lovely relaxed bar, good breakfast, wish we could have stayed longer.

Staying on points, upgraded to the Royal Suite, as a romantic getaway.

Hotel staff were charming and helpful, pointing out the local attractions and everything was within walking distance. It really was a great few days.

The room was great, only disappointment was the bathroom, the plumbing was antique - the shower a bit small and grubby, we did not dare try the Jacuzzi.

Easy parking, a bit of a challenge navigating through Bristol as the GPS kept cutting out.

My answer is "No." I didn't realise how convenient the location was until I started to take a walk around the hotel. It essentially sits on an "island" for pedestrians, with the cathedral right next to it, the city green in front of it, and city hall and city library within 2 minutes walk. The gem of the city's historical architectural gem are right in front of it. What's even better is that if you walk on the side alley down the steps between the hotel and the cathedral, you would be at the @Bristol and Bristol Aquarium within 3 minutes and have all the waterfront restaurants for you to dine in.

Breakfast is of high quality and they didn't even charge for our children. Our overall experience of the hotel is generally positive except that I don't think the man who served us at the front desk did a good job recommending rooms. We arrive late checking in - at around 7:30. Most better rooms were taken. We were told that there was a party that evening so many rooms were blocked out from sale because of the noise concerns. The man gave us three rooms to choose from but failed to offer a good recommendation. He did offer to show us all the rooms according to his preference. In the end, we choose the last one he showed us. If he were more enthusiastic or persuasive or have better judgement, we wouldn't have to see all of them.

Room Tip: For a family with two young children, room 726 is great. It is an L shaped room which we find extre...

I stayed here with two friends for a girly weekend and it was perfect. The hotel has character. It is ideally placed to see the sights and not too far from the train station. The room was lovely. We shared a triple room and there was plenty if space. The breakfast was really good with lots of choice. I thought it was really good value and would certainly stay there again.

Having stayed in the hotel for the last 4 months during the week the following comes from the experience of a regular guest.

I have stayed in the standard, superior and suites however for a break of a few night's the standard room would be more than enough for most people. The standard rooms are fairly roomy and have a good sized bathroom, stocked with basic complimentary toiletries. As with any Marriott the bed and linen in support of a good nights sleep is outstanding compared to rival brands. Some rooms are above the bar/entertainment rooms downstairs where events can go onto 12am. If you are a light sleeper then I would definitely advise requesting a quiet room as some rooms also suffer from traffic noise.

The hotel is very well located for central Bristol and a significant number of restaurants are on offer. Sergio's is an outstanding authentic Italian close by, also Jamie Oliver recently opened a branch of his Jamie's restaurant. Clifton also offers a large selection of restaurants, some of which cater for the fine dining types.

The hotel has two bars and its own restaurant. The food at the restaurant is pretty good and evidently significant money has been recently spent on modernising.

This would only be applicable for a regular customer but compared to other hotel brands the checkin process is considerably longer, each time it approaches 5 minutes despite staying each week. Additionally I've lost count the number of times that I have been asked If I have stayed at the hotel before or used the breakfast buffet. Perhaps staff could access the history of bookings to avoid getting this wrong? Other hotels I've stayed in for considerable periods seem to get this right pretty quickly.

One other area of improvement could be the TV and entertainment. There is a limited offering of TV and Radio channels, and from pressing a button to receiving a channel has a significant lag. I guess for those coming for a short stay this probably wouldn't be an issue. The bar downstairs shows sky sports for major events.

Room Tip: Request to staff a quiet room away from the traffic and the hotel bars. Superior rooms are marginall...

Best thing about this hotel is the location - it is near the City Centre but also at the bottom of Park Street and therefore not too far a walk from University area/Clifton/Whiteladies Road. I thought it was very reasonably priced and therefore good value for money. It is by no means luxury but outside of the building itself is nice, room is decent (small but not tiny) and I had no strong complaints. Staff were very nice and friendly. Bathroom was dated and looked like it had been last refurbished in the 80s, but was reasonably clean. Breakfast was somewhat disappointing - breakfast venue looked like a cafe in a railway station and what they served was not far off.

On the whole, it is a reasonably good option for staying in Bristol. I didn't feel strongly about it either way really.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the fourth floor and outward facing, otherwise I suspect they are very dark.

Finally got around to reviewing this hotel (2 years late, though we've been back for an anniversary meal since). This is probably the best hotel in Bristol. We got married here in the Palm court room, with the reception upstairs in the King's suite, which has a large balcony from which we could see the red arrows. The location is great as it's right next door to the cathedral and green, where we had some of our photos taken and for those just visiting Bristol it is right in the centre close to both Park street and the water front, but don't worry about your car as it has a large underground car park.
I can't emphasise enough how great the staff and hotel were: Special thanks should go to Sue, the hotel's wedding coordinator, for making us feel special both on the day and during the planning visits before hand.

Room Tip: The wedding suite is lovely, especially the massive marble bathroom.
