We only had a brief stay in Bristol and were looking for somewhere central that was reasonably priced - the Bristol Hotel fitted the bill. What was quite unexpected was how well appointed it was and much more superior than our expectations!
It's a large, modern hotel but has been decorated & furnished with more than a nod to the current trend of the more exclusive 'boutique' hotels. The reception, bar and public areas area elegantly appointed and the room itself was lovely - lots of pillows, fluffy white towels and a Nespresso machine! We opted for a room overlooking the lock which we were advised could be noisy on a Saturday night but there was no noticeable disturbance in the room. The bed was very comfortable, the room had plenty of storage space for clothes/luggage etc. and everything was spotlessly clean.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for a short break but it is comfortable enough for a longer stay. And I also recommend Bristol for a longer stay! It is a great city and worth visiting.

My wife and I stayed for two nights on a deal that included dinner for one night and B&B for two at a rate of £190. This proved to be a bargain. The building itself is ugly, but once across the threshold and into the reception everything was so well done. Very smart decor, very pleasant and efficient staff, and our sixth floor room overlooking the harbour was very clean and spacious, with a comfy bed and good quality coffee machine. Breakfast was very good and our evening meal surpassed our expectations.... it was really good quality as well. Only complaint would be against Bristol City Council. From the sixth floor you really get to see how ugly most of the new building in Bristol really is.

We came to Bristol for the Harbourside Music Festival, and so booked a room here on www.priceline.co.uk. We had to wait for a couple of minutes whilst the staff checked in other guests, but when it came to our turn the reception staff really knew how to turn on the charm. They used my name, several times; they apologised for the wait and made the whole checking in procedure a pleasure. The rooms were very clean, and the bed was one of the most comfortable that we've had for a very long time in a hotel. We had a room that overlooked the courtyard, which suited me because this hotel is situated in a lively area with plenty of nightlife around (hence this was a “quiet” room. The breakfast buffet was fresh, well presented and attended by (very busy) friendly staff.

Checking out from reception was again a pleasure, leaving me with a very pleasant memory of the hotel. I would definitely return if I can get a good rate. The car parking in the NCP car park was free.

Just two observations, however these do not detract from my positive comments above:
1. There are no clocks in the room, so when I woke up in the dark I had to use my mobile phone to see what the time was. A clock would be a great help if possible.
2. We were in room 230, and the fire doors nearby have no damping on them, so EVERY time someone went through the doors at night they slammed shut waking me. Other places use automatic door closers that hold the door back at the final few centimetres and then close slowly. The doors are opening and closing all night so this would be a good investment.

Congratulations though on having such a well managed hotel.

I was really impressed with the quality of the rooms, very modern and spacious with an excellent coffee machine in the room, relaxing lounger chair, excellent products in the bathroom replenished daily. Rooms were inspected by the housekeeper daily.
I would personally not pay for breakfast here - it looked fine but they were asking a lot of money when if you step outside the hotel you have a choice of restaurants etc by the canal that you can get e.g. organic freshly cooked breakfast for the same price.
The price of the drinks was also quite pricey but if thats what you expect in a high class establishment. Parking was in the adjacent NCP car park which you can get your ticket validated so you do not have to pay. Would not recommend leaving anything in your boot etc overnight though. This is an excellent city centre hotel and would highly recommend

Had three night stay at Bristol Hotel. The service was brilliant - all the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. However would like to single out Oliver on Reception and Paulina in the restaurant. We noticed on arrival that it was possible to upgrade the stay to include a hot air balloon flight, river trip, dinner and afternoon tea. At very short notice, Oliver organised every detail to allow us to enjoy these extra activities and it made our stay even more special. Nothing was too much trouble for him and it was always a pleasure to talk with him because he was so attentive and interested. Paulina greeted the guests every morning with a lovely smile and like Oliver, always maintained a highly professional and very pleasant demeanour that made guests feel valued and special. The food was excellent, waterfront location is a bonus and the rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. Have stayed in many hotels but the Bristol Hotel is certainly one of the best.

Dear Guest,

I was delighted to read your posting this morning on Tripadvisor and that the team looked after you so well. It is also great to read that our new Executive Chef has made you new admirers of The River Grille. Something we hope to keep growing as we continue our quest for superb locally sourced ingredients, simply prepared.

Our location in the heart of Bristol's historic harbourside really is perfect for seeing and experiencing all that Bristol and the West Country has to offer. I hope that your ballooning experience was as incredible as when I did it. It really is something that everyone should try and we are famous for it. The world's 2nd largest balloon festival is an annual event here in Bristol and is taking place again this coming August 12th - 15th.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. We might try skydiving next time!

Kind regards,

Mark Roche-Garland

A few weeks ago my husband and I stayed in Bristol for a few nights to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately we couldnt have a room in the Bristol Hotel as it was so busy, so we stayed in another hotel in the neighbourhood. We heard a lot about the River Grill restaurant, so we decided to have a dinner there with our friend from Bath who knew this place, and as he said, it is a really good place to celebrate anything. We did have a lovely meal, and thanks for the staff we had a wonderfull time. Later on we moved to Shore bar, which one was really busy, so we had to wait to be served, but it really worth it. The young lady (Ann/Anne) who served us apologized to kept us waiting, and quickly offered us a few drinks. The cocktails what we had were lovely, and I had the second one for free (as she said, it was my birthday cocktail from the bristol hotel, and just enjoy it) it really made me feel like a VIP. We'll definitely come back to see her and her lovely team again.

We were lucky enough to choose the Bristol Hotel and were genuinely impressed. The staff were curteous and helpful at all times, the service they offered was exceptional. We spoilt ourselves and asked for Breakfast delivered to our room, we still haven't worked out how anyone can deliver hot toast to your room 6 floors up? The full english breakfast was excellent. The room was clean, well appointed and we really did enjoy our short stay at this wonderfully positioned hotel. Many Thanks to the Brsitol Hotel Staff.
