“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

This was our second visit to the Bristol Hotel, and we will be back again! We stayed only one night - to see a band playing in Bristol - and chose this hotel firstly because of its location, on the waterfront and just over a footbridge to numerous bars and restaurants, the fact that there is an NCP Car Park next door which is free for guests at weekends, and of course because of the overall experience of staying in the hotel itself. Although our initial room on the waterfront was a bit small, there was no issue in us transferring to a larger room on the road-side of the hotel. The rooms are all tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean and offer all the facilities, even down to a decent hairdryer! The staff couldn't be more courteous and helpful. Although only there for one night - we came away feeling we had had a full weekend break away. Thank you so much to all at the hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms on the road-side are larger, but that is countered by noise from traffic. Having said that - t...

Dear Claire H,

It is pleasing to read you had an “ excellent stay".

We are a good base when visiting bands, bars or restaurants near the harbour because of our central location......and I guess the free car parking also helps!!

thank you for the review,

Sincerely,

Well situated on the water front in the centre of Bristol, this hotel gives a great welcome with very positive and helpful reception and restaurant staff. The building looks typical of those built in the latter part of the 20th Century, and is now showing its age particularly in the bedroom and bathroom fixtures and fittings, some of which were insecure (taps and shower fittings) which I would not expect to see in accommodation in this price bracket. There was no suitcase stand and the tea bar was well concealed in a cupboard. Internal refurbishment is now due and the glitter with which it was built is beginning to fade. We didn't try the swimming pool or spa.

We stayed here for 2 nights in May for my husbands birthday; which I had a booked as a deal to include breakfast both mornings, dinner on first evening, plus a free cocktail each. Check in was very easy and we were able to get to our room early. Parking was right next to the hotel with easy access and also free on weekends. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice of hot and cold selection. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and the decor throughout the hotel was very tasteful and inviting. The location couldn't have been better right on the quayside close to many bars, restaurants and shops.

Room Tip: ask for river view

My wife and I recently stayed at The Bristol Hotel during a break in the centre of Bristol . The accessibility to the town and harbour were great and having an adjacent car park was extremely convenient . The staff at the hotel were both courteous and efficient and all appeared to want to help in any way possible . The room , overlooking the water , was very comfortable , clean and modern . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would certainly look to stay there again , or at another Doyle Hotel , whenever the need arose .

My husband and I stayed here for a recent theatre trip, the location was excellent right on the waterfront and very close to the theatres of Bristol. We stayed on a secret escapes deal - superior room, breakfast and cocktails on arrival. The superior room was lovely, one of the best we have stayed in at this hotel rating. We were pleased to also have parking included in this as otherwise the NCP is very expensive.
The room, hotel, staff and food was all excellent. We were not disappointed at all and would certainly stay here again and would not hesitate to anyone wanting a lively city break near all amenities.

We stayed on a two night bed and breakfast deal with dinner on the first night included and some free cocktails. Can't fault the staff all were very helpful , check in was easy and the car park immediately next door is free at weekends for hotel guests , just drive in and the hotel will sort out your ticket on leaving.

The superior room was not that large but not small , the bathroom was a good size. The bar area is small for a hotel this size but we managed to get a seat and there was a musician playing the piano which was a nice touch.

I didn't think the dinner in the River Grille was great , just adequate and quite expensive , you get an allowance of £19.50 towards the a la carte menu but that just about covers two courses.

The cooked breakfast on both days was excellent , it's a buffet arrangement but everything was hot and available , and lots of breads etc to choose from with excellent tea.

Only improvements , the bar service can be slow especially as the girls serving you also have to go away and make cocktails or coffees.

There is no tea making facilities just an expresso machine for coffee in the room.

There are only two lifts and are they are very small.

The location is brillant everything is within walking distance and therfore you can pop back to the hotel when you want.

Room Tip: I suspect the harbour side rooms have the best views.

Dear rovingranger,

Thank you for your review, we are glad your overall stay was a pleasant one,

We will use your comments to ensure we improve our offering and you'll be pleased to hear we have a lift upgrade programme lined up for the end of the summer to increase the size of the smaller of the two lifts.

All our rooms have tea / coffee making facilities even if there is a Nespresso machine, however we conceal them in one of the wardrobe spaces.

thank you for your feedback,

Sincerely,

The renovated dock area in the centre of Bristol is a fantastic place to stay - and this hotel is tucked away just behind the quayside, near to the Arnolfini centre. Outside it looks like some concrete monstrosity but don't judge it by that - I was really surprised and impressed by how well decorated it is inside, both on the ground floor and in my room which was comfortable and stylish. For a double room it felt quite spacious compared to lots of hotels I've stayed in for work. It all feels well cared for, clean and with a very comfortable bed.
The wifi signal was good and it was easy to connect to broadband. Unlike a lot of places I've stayed I didn't have any problem connecting. It felt like there was enough space to sit and work or watch the tv.
I also thought the staff were exceptionally pleasant - polite but also friendly.
You can walk out from this hotel and find a good choice of restaurants within a short walk.
On a spring summer evening it's a nice area to walk about.
