The price was good from a Travelzoo offer- deluxe room with bathrobes, slippers, nespresso machine, complimentary water and newspaper, plus sparkling wine and marshmallows with dipping chocolate, inc breakfast and a 3 course meal.
arrival- handy NCP, pointless having access from each floor as you need your room key to access the hotel and once you have checked in why would you be in the car park again apart from leaving?? We had to lug our cases from floor 3 of the NCP to the reception to check in. Also if you dont want to wait for the lifts, the stairs down are again part of the NCP so you have to exit onto the street to access the hotel reception- bizarre.
reception- fast check in, top floor as requested, wine ordered and delivered to room.
room- lovely large deluxe room, kingsize bed super-super comfy, bathroom has lovely Spa toiletries, didnt use bathrobes but slippers handy free gift, room overlooked harbour and bars BUT the thumping base noise of the bars started at tea time and permeated through the closed window and double glazing so maybe if you are a light sleeper, request a room at the back of hotel.
staff- very efficient, mainly friendly but if they come across as serious this may be due to most of them being foreign, having said that we had no problems and the managers are always on top of things and checking that everything is in order. Housekeeping do a good job, BUT is there a need to start cleaning rooms by 9am?? Doors slamming, voices, hoovering, we couldnt have had a lie-in if we'd wanted it.
Overall, very nice classy hotel with excellent service- I would definitely stay here again even with my few moans !!
restaurant- we had the 3 course set menu included in package- I would not have paid for the meal otherwise as choice was limited and the starter was VERY small, portions need to be bigger- this is not a Michelin starred restaurant. Breakfast was a good choice, with free newspapers, good service and a lovely piano player, plus good views if you sit by the window.
location- good with lovely views of the harbour, lots of bars and restaurants and express supermarkets, easy to find.
