We were looking for somewhere to eat on Christmas Eve and visited Raj. We booked ahead and arrived to a warm welcome including table candle lit ready. Twice as many poppadums were served as ordered, ("on the house") and the staff couldn't have done more to help us cater for our ceoliac (gluten free) son. Food matched the same high standards that service had set, and if we lived locally, this would be our regular curry house. Excellent. Simply excellent.

The entrance down some steps near the Old Vic theatre might deter you from entering, but we were quickly found a table and enjoyed a tasty evening meal in this lively and bustling venue. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

As a family we went to a show in one of the theatres close to the Raj and needed a Resturant close by.

Recommend that any following this review do the same and book in advance as we arrived just as the doors opened and within half an hour the Resturant started to fill. I could go into all the enjoyable meals we had but that would take to long to go through. Top tip eat here if you enjoy an old school curry in the old school surroundings and not some modern jazzed up unrecognisable Indian as seems the norm lately.

From the popadoms and pickles through to the deserts the meal was professionally served by a very friendly staff throughout. This wasn’t just the waiter for our meal but seemed to include the Chef and the Boss ensuring our meal was being enjoyed throughout.

Cost for a Resturant in central Bristol very refreshing along with the Kingfisher beer.

Definitely worth the visit.

Bring going to our favourite curryhouse in Bristol for over 20 years. Superb food and service. Always spiced to my liking and order is quick and service is excellent. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas Mr West
