“Plenty to see and do”

Old Down Country Park

We had visited Old Down two years ago and were impressed with it. The grounds and house are beautiful and there are lots of animals to see but there didn't seem much to keep the kids occupied once they had seen everything. However, this time they had added some extra equipment for them to play on and there was an Easter competition so they were engrossed all day long. Admission prices are very reasonable so the whole family and all ages can enjoy a good day out at a bargain price. This is definitely one to add to our list of regulars.

Visited on Mother's Day with my daughter and grandaughter. Directions not very good, not signposted. Had a lovely coffee, pot of tea and cake when we first arrived. Took my grandaughter to see the animals, get up close to the chickens and rabbits, she thought the pigs and goats were lovely and got upset when she had to leave the lambs behind. The adventure playgorund was a hit too. The only part of the day that was spoilt was the lunch we had. The staff refused to give us our drinks in proper cups, yet we had been given cups and a teapot earlier in the day. Staff claimed it was because we were sitting outside, yet people were coming out with glasses and bottles, also, staff were bringing drinks out in proper cups. My wrap had lukewarm brie in, the cranberry was put in as an afterthought, so it made the whole wrap cold, salad was a few leaves and one slice of tomato. We ordered the child's tomato and cheese pasta for my grandaughter, which was cold in parts and hot in other parts, obviously warmed up in a microwave and not stirred, or the sauce had been partly warmed, and poured over cold pasta. The sauce tasted like it had come out of a jar and not homemade, as the staff claim. My comments were submitted on a feedback form, as requested by a member of staff. On the plus side, I would visit again, but take a picnic.

Coming from the north this is a difficult place to find. There isn't a sign to indicate the final turning into foxholes lane. Once inside the children enjoyed the playgrounds. There aren't that many animals to look at. There is a nice walk to a lake with views of the severn.

Visited with daughter and 18 month old grandson. Could do with a little thought for the visitors by identifying where on the park each type of animal is to be found, the handout map just gives it as 'animals' in a particular location rather than saying what was where. Lots of chickens, but couldn't find some of the listed animals. Café food was quite expensive for what it was. Entry price of £5 is about right for the experience.......would visit again but will BRING MY OWN FOOD.
