This was our second visit to Holme Lacy, the first being back in Oct 2011. There have certainly been quite a few changes made, most I must say not to the good.
The majority of staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, there were the odd few who must of been having a bad day or should I say.... days!
Our room, 210 Historic junior suite, was excellent, though dรฉcor was beginning to look very tired, the bathroom was in need of a very deep clean, mould in grouting, cracked floor tiles and more.
We dined each evening in The Orchard Restaurant, were certainly could not fault the waitresses in here, they were delightful, however, unfortunately we can not say the same about the food or lack of it.
The chef certainly put a lot of effort into preparing and presenting the food but, the lack of food served on the plate was a joke. On our previous stay we also dined in the same restaurant, the food then was far superior in both quality and quantity, oh and you did not have to pay extra for coffee then!!!
It was also very disappointing the fact you had to choose your meals from the same menu the whole of your stay, it would of been far better to of offered a smaller choice, include a roast from the carvary and change the menu daily. Breakfast was good, just what you would expect.
The entertainment team were certainly enthusiastic and put on a very good Panto, the same could not be said about the Pianist dull, boring and often out of tune, it felt as though he did not really want to be there.
It was good to see more younger adults there (40's & 50's) we can only hope that Warners continue to attract these people, after all, its not there just for OAP's.
Overall we had a good stay.
Do not like the new system of pricing, it appears as though its a way of getting more money out of the "customer" , I'm not saying it is but that's how it appears, the old way was far better.

Room Tip: If funds allow certainly upgrade to an Historic type room, room 210 was huge, had a lovely view over...

We have just returned from our twelfth Warners' break and our third at Holme Lacy. It was wonderful value for money and an excellent holiday. The food, accommodation, entertainment and service were outstanding. Cannot recommend these hotels highly enough but we do always make sure that we get the best possible financial deal and so this time we had four nights in a standard room for a little over ยฃ160 each. The key is to book your next holiday before you leave and then keep returning so that you become Concierge Club members and get even more savings. Warners reward loyalty and the result is that everyone is happy. Here's to our next break already booked for the autumn and we are already thinking of where to go in 2015. To be really picky - two negatives - the newly introduced charge for a coffee after the evening meal and the complicated pricing structure in the brochure instead of the old all in one price. Also we booked two rooms for ourselves and some friends but our rooms were miles apart.

We had a 3 night break in a historic room. Couldn't fault it really, best food I've had at a Warners and the house itself is really beautiful. The staff are all so friendly and warm and there's generally a nice atmosphere.

Would have liked the pool to be a bit warmer and the bubble pool was too cold to sit in for any length of time, but we still managed to spend some time relaxing in there.

Room Tip: We had a historic room (210) lovely big room and really quiet too.

Promoted as a Dickensian week break....it was more a turkey and tinsel thing for the coach trippers.....there was certainly nothing Dickensian about it..!! That was by the by, as we only go to chill out for the 4 nights prior to our Festive activities....and, apart from all the little disappointments which can be put down to the many changes throughout 2013,....we did manage to achieve our aim..!! The "new" check in experience was very impersonnel...the room I'd chosen was undergoing maintenance....the alternative corridor room was allocated by housekeeping staff....on enquiry at reception for an historic room for which I expected to pay extra(even as a concierge club member) I was ignored....I did manage to avoid two further alternatives before accepting one above the Leisure centre..!! It didn't help their cause when I later met trippers who had been "freely" upgraded to historic rooms..!! More attention financially needs to be to the leisure facilities rather than perfectly acceptable Standard/Ambassador rooms being changed to Excutive rooms to create more income and the difference in rooms is barely noticable...who wants to spend all day in their hotel room...?? The new dining experience, which incidently is charged for separately from the room now when booking, means there are less choices direct from the kitchen, and the carvery is becoming similar to those in the towns and city centres except of course it's costlier..!! I am sure there will be many future "new clients" who will rave about their experience, as did we on our many visits prior to 2013. This was our 2nd visit this year, the previous being in March, and we could see the writing on the wall then......and judging by the lack of familiar faces this last visit.....I think many of the staff have seen the light as well..!! We are not as keen on Bodelwyddan as a venue, but, we have opted for this for our March 2014 break and we can only live in hope that the changes inflicted by the influence of the Bourne Leisure management will not be as noticable to us there..as it has been 4 years since our last visit..!!
It's all a damn shame really as over the years, and especially at our time in life, there was a feeling of being treated differently at the Warner hotels...with a respect and regard for our age group..!! Now it appears as though their attitude has changed....we are being seen as the "aging population with more monney to spend than we have the time left to do it".... but the changes being made are not justifying the financial increases....!!!

Room Tip: Main corridor rooms get all the passing activity.......the majorityof rooms have pleasant enough vie...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor.

The decision for changing the dining has been made to benefit the majority of our guests by giving them increased dining options. Since implementing this, we havenโ€™t changed our menu offering, and therefore, we still offer a wide range of meals from both the carvery and direct from the Kitchen.

I hope that you enjoy your break at Bodelwyddan Castle in March.

Kind Regards,

Rachael Fitton

went to this abba weekend at home lacey with a group of 12 friends all aged between 39-58. made really welcome when we first got there, the staff were really helpful and pleasant. food was excellent, rooms were clean.
The entertainment was to a high standard only downfall was the gentlemen that played the organ and piano well out of tune and no personality.
All the activities where free and a lot of fun, all the other residents were really friendly and joined in with fun.
I can't say enough about this hotel except excellent all round.

Room Tip: I was in a standard room but was very clean. friends had another room which was huge and looking ove...
