It was our first time as guests to the hotel and were impressed with the architecture and decor. However there was a carpet refit happening on the ground floor. This made our expected peaceful Dickens break a little unnerving. Throughout the day there would be knocking and the use of noisy power tools to lift the old carpet. I understand this is necessay at times to maintain the standard but it was meant to be a Christmas themed break and I think Charles Dickens would not be impressed. We would not usually have been bothered by the early delivery/collection every morning but after visiting the excellent leisure complex our room was not the ideal place to relax afterwards due to the contractors working!

As a couple of seniors sharing a big '70' celebration a Warner's Break seemed ideal to the solution of a great getaway 5 day break. We chose Holme Lacy House because of a reuptation for good food and comfortable accommodation - we were not dissapointed! We took the Historical Suite option which included full use of the Orchard Resturant. The food was absolutely brilliant and the staff helpful and attentive. Our room whilst 'grand' in style would benefit from a refurbishment (cracked window/broken window sash etc). However the giant bed was extremely comfortable and everything was spotless. We were less taken with the much advertised entertainment but in fairness it proved very popular with the majority of guests. Overall a great five days and certainly good value for money!

Room Tip: Go for a Historical Suite and take full advantage of having all your meals, with waiter service, in...

AS soon as you drive through the gates up the long drive you may feel as though you've travelled through a portal. to a place unfamiliar. The grounds are superb, putting, archery, tennis and bowls outdoors. Indoors there are quizzes, a gym, swimming pool and a number of lounges. A great place to chill out or get involved in the activities. Nightime entertainment is good, but don't expect west end standards. If you're interested don,t pay top price there are discounts to be had. Food is good, you can pay extra for fine dining, but what's the point?

Room Tip: Standard rooms are fine, two 3ft beds fixed together. If you have money to burn upgrade.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 146 ,my wife has a mobility problem, this being a ground floor.

Arrived at Holme Lacy after rainy journey to a warm and wecoming reception.Check in was easy and all the reception staff friendly and most helpful. We stayed in room 213, a historic room which is very spacious, plenty of drawer space a nice big wardrobe also a good sized dressing table, there is also a large bathroom, both the bedroom and bathroom were warm and spotlessly clean( well done Gina)the only criticism, there is only a double bed in this room a kingsize bed would make this room even more luxurious.
We dined in the Courtyard Restaurant, the food is of good quality and cooked to a very high standard.Thank you to all the staff in the Courtyard Restaurant, especialy Sonia, Peter, Roscia and Pedro.
The entertainment was excellent on all three nights, 1st night a Buddy Holly tribute, Mark Robinson and th Counterfeit Crickets, new years eve the entertainment team put on a fabulous show and ensured everyone had a night to remember, the last night of our break we had Edison Lighthouse to entertain us, another great show. This entertainments team is one of the best teams that has been at Holme Lacy for sometime and they are well lead by Dave the enterainments manager.
The new decorations that have been made at the hotel are very appealing and eye catching.
It appears there have been many changes at Holme Lacy from general manager to restaurant and operations manager and also entertainments manager, it now seems every one is now pulling in the same direction from general manager to room attendants. If this trend continues Holme Lacy will again become one of the top Warner hotels.

This is an enormous hotel, with a very fast throughput of booked parties. Ibelieve it claims 4 star status.
I had thought that the Warner's no children policy might be an advantage, but it is not, as the guests tended to be elderly (in terms of age and outlook). Younger and more critical guests are excluded. I and a friend had a one night stay 21/22 December 2012.
The dinner was not of 4-star standard: I suspect pre-cooked and reheated, or defrosted as necessary, given the volume (350 guests to be served in a 2-2.5 hour slot). Vegetables were hard, with a stewed and overcooked taste, and the fish dish I chose was not exceptional. Starters and desserts mainly assembly and/or defrost. For two courses the cost was £29.00. I have paid less in a De Vere hotel for a much better meal. And that brings on the subject of drinks - these were certainly expensive, as were the lunchtime sandwich (around the £6-£7 mark) and tea.
The room in the old building was quite good; seemed clean and linen in good condition. Money had been wasted on a coffee machine, and a CD player (presumably to make the place seem cutting edge and luxurious) but no clock, and as far as I could see no radio, and no workable wi-fi. A code was given, but it was not suitable for wi-fi from an Ipod, so didn't bother. However, some attention needs to be given to the thorough cleaning of public areas, particularly toilets, where there were dirty marks on the edges of cubicle doors. One of the problems is the limited turnround time between one block booking and the next: as we arrived at lunchtime, the hotel was being cleaned and re-linened for our party (7 coaches), and on the day we left the same pattern seemed to be occurring.
Of the many Warner experiences listed in the brochure (archery, bowls, etc) none were available. The "entertainment" in the evening was quite dreadful - an evening at the musicals was in actuality songs from recent pop musicals belted out at high volume. Not what many of the elderly guests would have wanted or expected. Sadly the "entertainers" had little talent, and did not have the voice to sing ballad style. I did not try the spa or beauty salon.
The building itself, and the grounds are attractive. But remote from Hereford, so own transport is definitely required.
The final straw for me was approximately 24 hours after returning from Holme Lacy, I fell ill wit the d& v bug, and was ill over Christmas. .
I wouldn't go to this hotel again, nor to any other in the Warner's chain.

Christmas 2012, House is superb and grounds wonderful, staff all pleasant, rooms and housekeeping superb, breakfasts good, lunch and dinners, pretty poor, meat overcooked, vegetables boiled to hell and back..Entertainment !! the acts that were brought in cliff was good, standup comedian was good, remainder awful, the in house entertainers were full of life and trying real hard but the content was beyond dire,,,so whats dangerous, well the house has had a redecorate, but they had not finished it, they left off fitting the fire door auto releases, so most ground floor fire doors were wedged open and would not self close in event of fire, apart from illegal, its downright dangerous, i informed the duty manager, who didnt really understand what was dangerous about it(which makes her dangerous as a duty manager), and they still didnt fix the problem before we left, so i slept really nervously

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, though we are of course very sorry that you were unhappy with some aspects of your stay. Please be assured that the Warner Leisure Hotels team take Health and Safety, including fire regulations, very seriously. During the course of your stay we were carrying out some corridor carpet replacement works. Following a thorough risk assessment, our method statements for carrying out this work safely were identified and agreed. We worked with the contractor to ensure this task was carried out safely and in compliance with fire regulations. The night time security team were on duty throughout and at no time were our guests put at any risk as a result of these works.

If you would like to provide a contact e-mail address I am more than happy to contact you directly to discuss this in detail.

I hope this does not prevent you from taking a break with us in the future.
