“pub grub at reasonable prices”

This place is not as good as it was, but it is okay for pub grub. I had the battered red fish for starters, which was good as were my faggits (I know this is spelt wrong but Trip Advisor wont let me spell it properly as they see it as a profanity - idiots), but my husband was disappointed with his steak main course - maybe he should not order steak in a pub. Okay for a lunch venue - has outdoor seating, so good on a sunny day. If Bakewell is busy, then it is easy to drop down here instead

This is the first time we have stayed at a Marstons Inn, all that I knew was that it was part of a "budget chain". Arrived at 15:30 on a sunny Saturday, the first of 2013. The place was very busy but the 'Welcome' was superb. The guy insisted on carrying my wife's luggage to the room, the explanation / information was full and to the point - gratefully no unnecessary waffle. The room was a surprise - well, and tastefully, decorated with better lighting than normal and an excellent bathroom. A good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits and a simple heating system. There was a notice warning of the effect of all guests taking baths at the same time would deplete the hot water supply but we didn't have a problem - better to be forewarned than have a cold shower!

The current special offer is 20% off food if you are a resident. My wife said her Thai chicken with noodles and her Trifle dessert were excellent. My "Gourmet Rump Steak burger" was very good (shame the side order arrived when I had finished eating), the Apple Crumble dessert was ordinary but quite acceptable.

Breakfast in the Conservatory was pleasant and the fact that there were a lot of non-residents calling in for breakfast shows that people know and value the place. The sausage and hash browns were a bit disappointing, the bacon and 'doorstep' slices of granary toast balance things out because they were very good.

Would I come here again - Yes. Would I stay / eat at another Marstons Inn - Yes

Oddity: We were given soup spoons for dessert and they were set for breakfast as the spoon for cereals??

Room Tip: All the rooms are at the back of the hotel and despite the proximity to the A6 we were not disturbed...

The atmosphere was pleasant and so were the staff- our visit was a Tuesday lunch time and a lot of the tables were occupied. It was nice to receive a complimentary dish of tortilla chips and dip while we waited for our food (just a shame the dip was in a plastic pot). The food however was pretty average- typical pub chain food " does what it says on the tin". Which is a shame as it is in a nice location with pleasant surroundings. Would not rush back.

The grouse and claret is a great base for a visit to Chatsworth. We arrived Friday afternoon and were met at the door by a very helpful and friendly manager, and shown to our room. The room was very clean comfortable and warm. The pub has a great atmosphere. And some good beer. The restaurant has an excellent choice of menus. The evening meals we had on both days were excellent as we're the breakfasts. Would certainly stay again.

Stayed for one night and was pleasantly surprised by the accommodation and food. Booked through Late Rooms but should have checked Marston Inns website for a better last minute price! Room was large and bathroom also very spacious. The whole place was very clean and staff seemed to be very kean on ensuring you were looked after. Meal in the restaurant was very good with lots of alternatives. Complimentary tortilla chips and dips a nice idea. Room was subject to a bit of road noise or the usual air conditioning unit but nothing to obtrusive. Breakfast was freshly cooked and although choice was limited was adequate considering the cost of the room. Would definitely stay there again and also look out for other Marston Inn properties to see if they are as good!

When originally booking the Grouse and Claret there was a little confusion over the price available. I would like to thank the manageress for her prompt reply and efficient resolve of the confusion. We arrived around 8pm on the friday night, to a very jolly gentleman who showed us to a lovely room, it was warm and cosy and clean. we then returned to the bar to a vast menu. we ordered our meal which was lovely too, prompt and well presented. We were totally well looked after all weekend and are very happy with our stay. Breakfast was yummy and we went on our way. would reccomend and certainly stay again.
