“Warm and welcoming in a beautiful spot!”

This guesthouse is very special. Sandra was there to welcome us from the start and nothing was too much trouble. As a family with small children you always feel slightly anxious however everything we needed was there and nothing was too much trouble. The place itself is tucked away down a country track and you are surrounded by fields, sheep and rabbits. For breakfast you can choose between their own duck or hen eggs and you wake to the smell of it being prepared for you downstairs. We very much enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.

The ambience, Sandra & Chris, (the hosts), location, the standard of service, the welcome and all aspects of our stay was truly wonderful. We intend to repeat our experience again in july 2010.

Our first stay at Trawscoed Mawr was so memorable that we recently returned to spend our honeymoon here! The beautiful B&B is located down a winding lane just off the A5, not far from Corwen and 30 minutes from Betws-y-Coed. The B&B has two bedrooms as well as the Bakery Suite, a self-contained living area with bedroom upstairs. Both times we've stayed in the character-filled Bakery Suite, with its thick Welsh stone walls, cute shutters and amazing stone hearth, which still retains its original bakers oven. The suite's private lounge area has tea making facilities and a TV (no TV reception) with video and DVD player to while away wet Welsh afternoons. The bed is so comfy, the peace and quiet fantastic. With nothing in the immediate vicinity you wake up in the morning to absolute tranquillity and the smell of a waiting cooked breakfast. The breakfast is wonderful, complete with home laid duck or hen eggs, and is taken in the atmospheric beamed dining room with views across to sheep-dotted hills. In the evenings Sandra spoiled us with gorgeous three-course meals, the most perfect way to end the day. Sandra is such a lovely host, nothing is too much trouble and details like fresh flowers in our room were really appreciated. We were made to feel so welcome, even with our small baby. Perhaps Trawscoed Mawr is not for you if you like to be near the hustle and bustle of town life (the nearest pub/place to eat is 1.5 miles away for example), but if you want a lovely quiet hideaway from which to do trips out to Chester, Betws-y-Coed, Llangollen and Snowdonia, then I can't recommend anywhere more.

  • Liked — Warmth of welcome, tranquility, food, character of accommodation
