“Unusual area of Madeira very like the Highlands of Scotland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

The food is lovely, cooked to order so it's always fresh and the garlic bread exceptional. The owners are helpful and friendly and always willing to chat if they're not too busy. We return every time we visit Madeira as we just love the restaurant, the food and in particular the area.

“off the beaten track and worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

Surprising in so many ways...not least because my guestimate translation led me to think this might be a pasta restaurant in the midst of the mountains! It's not - it is a highly atmospheric hunting lodge type place, with intriguing chains hanging above the tables...which turn out to be to suspend extraordinarily delicious chunks of just-rustic-indoor-woodfire-oven-cooked steak from 4 foot long wooden skewers. No hyperbole, just wonderful food and great service. Turns out that the pasto bit refers to a sort of mountain resting place for travellers who once traversed this pass on foot from Seixal to Funchal. Definitely not one to pass by - very, very much worth a visit...
