“Wonderful hospitality in a village that time forgot”
Reviewed May 6, 2011

This was the second stay at the Old Vicarage. I thought our first stay was great, but since then it has got even better. Ann & Bill are wonderful, genuine hosts. Your welcomed with home-made cakes and a lovely pot of tea served in bone china cups. The king size room was very luxurious, but tastefully decorated. The skies are so dark, the only sound is from the wildlife and the bed so comfortable that you enjoy a wonderful night's sleep. Breakfast is made to order with an array of food. Ann now offers some relaxation and massage for her guests, unfortunately I didn't have time to experience that, but next time... The village is a wonderful retreat and reminds me of a village back in time, which was really why we visited as the village is where my ancestors lived. The village archives housed by Ravenstonedale Historical Society has extensive information about families from the village with many wonderful photographs and documents. Well worth a visit to this wonderful village. Thanks so much Ann & Bill for such a lovely welcome. Hope to see you again some day. Deb & Martin Thomas

We booked one night at the Old Vicarage by chance, having been recommended by another B&B which was fully booked. What a wonderful recommendation indeed. We had hardly left our car when we were greeted by Bill and Ann like long standing friends. We were welcomed into their beautiful home and treated to tea, coffee and newly baked cake, while sitting in front of a roaring fire. We immediately felt at home and soaked up the atmosphere of the house which has been lovingly restored, looking out onto the views of the garden and nearby stream. Our two rooms were attractive, spacious and well equipped. On Bill's recommendation, we had booked dinner at the Black Swan, an excellent inn within a very short distance from the house. This too was excellent.
Breakfast was delicious and Ann and Bill ensured that we wanted for nothing. It is clear that Ann is an excllent cook! Breakfast was served in their lovely dining room overlooking the garden with a roaring fire buring in the marble fireplace.
This did not feel like a Bed and Breakfast / Guesthouse, but rather like staying with some well loved friends who knew you well. They were very attentive and genuinely welcoming but never overbearing. As Bill and Ann waved us off and ensured our safe exit from their gateway onto the quiet lane, we hoped it would not be long before we could make a return to The Old Vicarage and the village of Ravenstonedale.

Stayed at The Old Vicarage for one night. The house is lovely - you feel just as if you were staying in someone's well loved home. The room was beautifully furnished, and spotlessly clean, with lots of nice finishing touches such as shampoo and conditioner in the shower.

We were made to feel very welcome by Anne with a nice pot of tea and slice of cake.

The 'Aga' cooked breakfast was good, and Bill's bowtie put a smile into the proceedings.

The local red squirrel’s stayed hidden, although we did just catch a glimpse of a red brush disappearing round the side of a tree.

Couldn't be beaten for comfort or value!
