“5 days of much needed lovely solitary confinement :-)”
Reviewed September 23, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Stayed in Lapwing Lodge with our 2 Standard Poodle's Lilly & Alfie.

First of all, we need to mention the cleaner's, what a fabulous job they do,the place was spotless!!!

If remote is what you're after then this is the place. For the walkers, there are loads of places to walk (miles and miles with pubs on the way - see in-cabin brochure), or you could just chill out on the site, as we did.

The cake on arrival was an added bonus along with a lovely card welcoming us.

There are only 3 cabins on the 7 acre site making this a truly secluded.

To say the dogs enjoyed themselves is an understatement!!! We were fortunate enough to be next door to people who didn't mind dogs being off lead, so they just played and chased each other around the lawn in front of the cabin (they'd already spent a week on holiday in a forest so they were easily worn out).

Unfortunately we didn't see the red squirrel until the last day (possibly a good job as Alfie likes chasing squirrels). What an amazing sight. Tip .... take some nuts, from the pet store, and put a trail along the floor. We also saw evidence of deer up by Mallard Lodge.

There was a fantastic thunder storm on the Tuesday night and, because of the overhang on the porch, we were able to sit on the porch watching it unfold.

Tip No.2. They offer massages etc at reasonable rates, please look on the website and book prior to arrival to avoid disappointment.

Only negatives, it would be good if the porch was secure to stop the dogs from wondering off. In hot weather you want to open the doors. This means you have to either shut the doors, when in hot tub or bathroom or try and barricade the steps with the porch furniture.

Secondly, I'm sure this is on the cards having read previous reviews. Kitchen needs a makeover, especially the cooker.

Overall, fantastic stay. Will definitely go again.

“Lovely girly weekend away in Lapwing Lodge!”
Reviewed September 13, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Booking was straight forward, getting there was easy, Neil was our contact and he was a really nice man, friendly and helpful (kindly posted back my mum's new dressing gown which she left which he really didn't have to). I came here with 4 of my sisters and my mum at the beginning of August to celebrate my mum's retirement The lodges were very nice and clean with beautiful views- the hot tub an added luxury. We went in it sunshine and rain! When the weather was nice we explored nearby (we wish we had found out some walks before we came as there are definitely good walks to do) and when it was not so nice outside we all enjoyed having a few bottles of wine watching DVDs (a good selection is available). Yes maybe the bunk beds aren't the best size for adults, luckily we are all quite short so it didn't bother us. We all felt we had a nice escape and were all relaxed when returning home. Would and have recommended this place!

“Stunning Location, Luxury Lodge, First Class management”
Reviewed August 24, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Wow what can I say! From the moment I got into contact with Neil and Jennie I knew that this was the place to go. Any questions I had they happily answered and were lovely welcoming hosts! When it came to our weekend away to celebrate our friends moving to Malawi this warm welcome continued, making our stay a truly wonderful experience that we will never forget! We have already talked about planning to go again we loved it that much! They are really dedicated to their small family run business and look after you incredibly well and make sure they are contactable if we needed them. The amount of things they think about in the lodge is very highly detailed and helped make our stay as comfortable as home. The card and cake on arrival, just everything was so perfect! They even had books, DVDs and games which was just outstanding! The Hot tub was great and staying in Lapwing with the sunken one into the decking allowed easier access in and out. The setting was beautiful with the lodges not close together which was fantastic! What a lovely little gem we have found! It was great to go for nice walk and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the local pubs which the detailed guest book helped us select! We found everyone in the area to be so friendly it was just so lovely! Thank you ever so much for your hard work to make our weekend so nice! We loved every second and will always be that special trip we remember! We will be back when our friends return from Malawi! Many Thanks Theresa xx

“Quaint location ”

This lodge is in a quaint location and literally in the middle of nowhere. Everything you need pretty much is there. There was a lovely welcome tray with cake and tea & coffee.

6 adults were staying here. Personally I wouldn't advise 6 adults to stay. The double bedroom and twin bedroom were brilliant. Bunk beds not suitable for adults. There is also not enough seating for 6 adults in the sofas.

Outside is the hot tub which is a lovely bonus with a lovely view of the fields. Lovely and warm. The only thing I'd advise for this is to get a decent light near the hot tub to allow safe access to the hot tub and to get in it. We had to use phone torches to guide our way in.

A lovely weekend had in lapwing. If you like the middle of nowhere it's ideal for you.

“Stunning Lodge”
Reviewed August 8, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Five of us plus our puppy stayed in Lapwing Lodge, and it was amazing. A great size, everything you could need, a wonderful location with plenty of great walks and a fabulous hot tub. Lots of days out including a visit to Wensleydale, Carlisle, Gretna Green, Sizergh Farm, Sedburgh - to name but a few- the information folder in the lodge is great for ideas. I had a Sainsburys delivery at the lodge, but we also ate out at The Fat Lamb- good food and dog friendly. Can't wait to return to Artlegarth!

The lodge is set in a beautiful and peaceful location. The hot tub is amazing! The lodge is plenty big enough for the 6 of us ladies staying there. I only met Neil the owner who is very friendly and helpful. Nice touch upon arrival of a cake and cups / tea/coffee waiting for us. This place is highly recommended
