“A fantastic break away in a stunning location.”
Reviewed January 7, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

From the moment we arrived we instantly relaxed in our beautiful log cabin. There was a freshly made cake & tea/ coffee waiting for us on arrival & Jennie, our host, popped in shortly after to ensure we had everything we needed & to answer any questions that we might have. The hot tub was an instant hit, particularly with our seven year son, and was a great way to relax even further, having explored the local area during the daytime. Both Jennie & Neil were incredibly friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure we had a great time. This even extended to rescuing our sons remote control plane from the roof, minor disaster averted! We can't recommend it highly enough and will definitely look to book again.

“Perfect 40th birthday weekend!”
Reviewed October 27, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Was given this weekend away in Mallard Lodge as a birthday gift. It was excellent, clean and well-equipped. Obviously recently decorated and the carpets, bedding and soft funishings all looked new. Flowers, champagne on ice and balloons waiting for me on arrival. It was dark outside but we were straight in the hot-tub with the coloured underwater light show and bubbles going. The patio is covered so the light drizzle didn't stop us and the water temperature kept us cosy even though the outside temperature was about 10C. Stayed in until about 11pm every evening and our young teenagers were in it at every opportunity throughout the daytimes, also. Was great to get the kids away from their computers for conversation, music listening and some splashing fun. I wasn't a hot-tub fan before but I'm definitely converted! In the daytime it was clear to see the beautiful countryside all around and another lodge in the distance - not all crammed in like some Lodges at other venues. We saw sheep, horses, birds and red squirrels locally. There is a small, shallow but pretty fish lake on site. I requested Neil and Jennie book a lunchtime table for my extended family (who visited for the day) and they selected the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale where we got an elegant, private room and the food was great. For another meal we had takeaway from the Mango Tree Indian in Kirkby Stephen which was excellent. Also, the high quality big breakfast pack that we had ordered lasted all weekend making it excellent value. Most relaxing weekend ever! Would recommend 100%. (Surprisingly, my virgin phone network gave phone and internet access too.)

Liked best: Peacefulness, scenery and wildlife, hot-tub.
Liked least: Lack of local shop although the local pub did sell me some OJ from their kitchen and Neil kindly gave me a bottle of cordial from theirs.

“A little slice of Eden!”
Reviewed October 19, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Very secluded with just the sound of birds and sheep, the occasional red squirrel and plenty of places to walk without coming across crowds of people. Seeing the milky way from the hot tub in the very dark sky was definitely a highlight! Perfect for a totally relaxing break.
We stayed for our wedding anniversary and Jennie and Neil had left a lovely cake and some bubbly chilling on ice for us when we arrived.
Mallard Lodge is fabulous with great views. Its lovely and cosy. Immaculately clean with everything you need in the kitchen including washing up liquid, tinfoil and tea towels etc, they have thought of everything, along with plenty of glasses for the wine - including plastic ones for the hot tub. We couldn't fault anything and will definitely be back.
The Black Swan in Ravenstonedale is excellent, we had a meal one night which was well above pub grub standard, and only a mile or so walk there and back.

“Peaceful and relaxing”
Reviewed July 7, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We have stayed in Mallard lodge numerous times and have never been disappointed, the lodges have recently been upgraded to a higher specification including a hot-tub which is fabulous to relax in, especially after a long day walking in the fells.
Everything that you need for your stay is provided, the owners are very friendly and accommodating and take pride in the lodges.
The area is ideal for a quiet getaway and the spacing between the lodges is spacious, we will certainly return again.

“we loved it so much we decided to move to cumbria”
Reviewed June 24, 2015 for a stay in November 2013

We were travelling from London area to cumbria to view potential houses to rent . so we decided that as our viewings were spread over 2 days that we would book up some where nice and enjoy the 2 days as well as looking at the area.
we got stuck in motorway traffic and after letting the owners know via email we were emailed back and given the combination to get in the chalet and were told they had switched the hot tub on low incase it was something we wanted to do, as it was outdoors and we were in the North in november i was not sure i wanted to go in.,...
we stoppped on route at the spar in kirkby to get some foods for our stay and a few bottles of prosseco.
we arrived to a beautifully warm chalet, it looked like home from home and the extra touches added made it more homely.
after a few prosseccos i decided to give the hot tub a try, it was dark but the coloured lights that were integrated into the hot tub gave it a spectacular glow, i stayed in there nearly 3 hours, we slept well both nights and could not find a fault even if too. we had such a lovely time and both of us fell in love with cumbria that we decided to move here. That was november 2013 and we are still in cumbria.....
