“Beautiful Cretan Hideaway”
Reviewed September 7, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We have recently returned from an amazing two week holiday at Villa Idi. The Villa itself has been beautifully restored and has every comfort including a magnificent terrace with a pool that has outstanding views of the mountains. Amari is a tranquil and beautiful village and the villa's terrace looks down over the terracota roofs of the surrounding houses and the village square. Villa Idi is the perfect place to relax and unwind, breathe in the clean mountain air and forget all one's cares.
Manolis - the villa's owner and Roumy the wonderful housekeeper could not have been more helpful and kind throughout our stay. Roumy is a wonderful cook, and we enjoyed delicious meals on the terrace. Manolis' recommendations on places to go and places to eat were spot on.
I can not recommend Villa Idi highly enough - we absolutely loved it.

“Better than the pictures on the website”
Reviewed August 20, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We booked Villa Idi via a website for our group, 4 adults and 4 children (9 to 16 years).
We were welcomed by the owner of the villa and the housekeeper, and we were nicely surprised by the house, the swimming pool and the surroundings. It looked really better than the pictures we saw on the website. The housekeeper Roumy, a very nice lady, cooks cretan meals on demand. The first evening we enjoyed one of her very nice meals. We felt "at home" from that first evening.
Being in the center of the Island, you can visit everything you want. With a rental car (was arranged perfectly for us by the owner) you can get anywhere, taking in consideration that you need about 45 min to cross the mountains.
We had a very nice experience and can advise this holiday villa to anyone who likes tranquility, get to know the local people, and prefers to avoid a bunch of tourists.

“Wonderful house in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed July 22, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We loved our time at Villa Idi. The house is large, well furnished, and spotlessly clean. We are a family of five, but the place sleeps eight comfortably, so that each of our kids had their own bedroom. Set in an idyllic Cretian village in the middle of the mountains, the views from the windows and the patios were wonderful. This is a perfect place for those who are looking for quiet, clean, clear air, and the experience of a luxurious villa in an authentic rural setting. Manolis, the owner, is warm, friendly and was very helpful in advising us how to plan our day trips around Crete.

“Lovely villa, quiet location”
Reviewed July 19, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

The villa was everything we were looking for: spacious, clean and beautiful. The pool is not huge, but big enough to spend a whole day in it; the children loved it! The house is very well equipped and the owner was very helpful in providing even baby equipment for three 0-1 year old children in our company. As mentioned in the earlier reviews, the lovely housekeeper is a excellent cook and it was great to have the opportunity to order a meal and not to cook or eat in a taverna every day. The owner is very helpful in suggesting places worth visiting in Crete and we really enjoyed the whole two weeks we spent in this wonderful house. The only group of travelers this house is maybe not suitable for is people with disabilities; there are a lot of stairs in and outside the house, whitch you should to keep in mind when traveling with small children too.

“The expirience of purity, authenticity, friendliness during ower stay in Villa Idi”
Reviewed October 13, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Beautiful cosy comfortable home with breathtaking views from the terraces at the highest mountains of Crete. The superb service from Roumy the “housekeeper” who cooks upon request and spoils you in all possible ways. Manoli, the owner of the house drops by to drink a Raki with you and tells about the habits of the local population, and the location of the eldest Byzanthine churches. The house is so comfortable, so clean, so full of character with furniture and fabrics from the grandparents. The private terrace to have your breakfast and supper. The refreshing swimming pool ads to your wellness. The direct environment with the wonderful olive groves, wild nature, and more remote beaches. Old monasteries with their essential role in Cretin history. The taverns with pure tasty Cretin food and their friendly staff. Crete and the villa Idi were a surprise for us and we like to come back again.Cornelia and Friso, Zandvoort, The Netherlands

“Magnificent”
Reviewed October 7, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Villa Ida is heaven on earth ! It is situated in the most beautiful valley of Amari, which could not be more of "the real Crete" you are looking for. I travelled w/ my mum, sister & family friend & although their was so much we wanted to see in Crete, we did not want to leave this most amazing place ! Mr Papadakis has taken his grandparent's home & transformed it into a Villa that should be featured in one of those fancy house magazines ! It is beautifully decorated & extermely well maintained. Mrs. Roumey, who you will have a hard time calling a 'house keeper' after meeting her, is an amazing women & friend to the property, do yourself a favor & have her prepare a meal for you one night..the food was the best we had in all of Greece ! Mr. Papadakis has gone to extreme lenghts to make your stay as comfortable & convenient as possible, by making up extremely detailed directions, sugesstions & advice on what to do in the area... take advantage of it.. trust me it's worth it. We went to one restaurant, on his recommendation & it was fabulous ! You are welcomed @ the Villa by Mr Papadakis & Mrs. Roumey w/ a basket full of local homemade good's & a refrigerator full of food & the bread man come's honking his horn twice @ the end of the driveway for your fresh bread ! So, you see you really do not have to leave ! However, their is plenty to do in this area to keep you entertained if you like ! I cannot say enough about what a gentleman Mr.Papadakis is & waht a loveley & kind women Mrs. Roumey is. One of my fondest memories is of us all packed into our little car, as we were leaving & Roumey standind @ the bottom of the stairs w/ both hands raised, waiving goodbye & blowing kisses !! It brought tears to our eye's. We truly enjoyed this magnificent Villa & would return in a heartbeat, given the chance I highly recommend to all !

“Comfort and calm in the real Crete”
Reviewed September 11, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Villa Idi is scrupulously clean, more than comfortable, very well finished and, most of all, a really relaxing and special place to be. The views are amazing, the village and area is interesting and the location is good for exploring the island. It is fairly remote so you have to be prepared to drive but the nearest supermarket is very close (10 mins in the car) and the nearest taverna closer still, plus bread is delivered to the village by van every morning. We were not disappointed when we arrived and our enjoyment of the whole holiday was only increased by the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, Manolis and his wife Roula who own the villa (which is half of Manolis' Grandmothers home, recently converted) and Roumy, who lives in an apartment beneath the villa and is the housekeeper. The welcome basket of food kept us going for 24 hours and food just kept on coming in the form of gifts from our hosts who did everything they could to ensure that we were comfortable and got the most from our visit. In our case this included an invitation to the village fiesta - an all night street party in the village square, with traditional dancing and music, food and plenty of raki! It was a fantastic holiday.
