“Very nice place to stay”
Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

We stayed two nights and indeed enjoyed the stunning view from the balkony onto the ocean. We were the only guests so that we had the whole ground floor for us, with a little lounge with complimentary tea, chocolate and coffee.
We had our breakfast served upstairs looking at the ocean: plenty of fruit, freely baked toasts and home made yoghurt.
Everything very clean.
Viv and Graham chatted with us very friendly.

We stayed at the Piha Ocean Lookout whilst tramping the Hillary Trail and found Graham and Viv to be amazing hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. The accommodation was beautifully presented and very comfortable. We were hot and tired when we arrived but were soon refreshed by the foot spa, long cold drink and shower. Graham not only drove us in to Piha for dinner, but also gave us a full guided tour of the town.
It was the most welcoming establishment I have ever stayed in.

Our extended family had a great last night of our holiday in Piha. Excellent BB with super welcoming hosts, amazing views and walks around the corner. You made us feel at home and gave continental brekkie a new meaning. Thank you, hope to come back after we do the Hillary trail!

We stayed at Piha Ocean Lookout for 2 nights between Christmas and New year. Our hosts, Graham and Viv, had the balance just right.....very hospitable, friendly and helpful but never intrusive....so, although you are essentially living on the bottom level of their home, as you have your own entrance, bathroom and small lounge, it is really very private......and spotlessly clean! The homemade breakfast provided on the terrace with stunning views of the ocean was just perfect and set us up well for the day exploring the Piha walks. Thanks for a lovely stay :)

There are not a lot of overnight options in Piha, so I was really happy to have found this one. First of all, the owners make a huge difference here. You are essentially staying downstairs in their home, but they are polite and considerate. If you want space, they will give it to you. If you want to chat, they are warm and friendly. They are also a wealth of helpful tips for visiting the local area.

So, as I said, you are staying in the downstairs rooms. You have your own entry off the driveway, which leads into a small lounge/kitchen area. From here, it leads to a hallway with the bedrooms and shower/toilet area. Note that the bathroom is not ensuite, it is across the hall from the room. The bedroom is simple, but nicely decorated. The bed and bedding are nice and comfortable. The room is plenty quiet for a good night's sleep. Breakfast is included with the room, and it was wonderful. Homemade yogurt with fresh fruit, then freshly made bread with a choice of spreads. Juice, tea, coffee as well. Wonderful. Finally, there is the view. They have a great view over Piha beach and of the sunset over the trees. Overall, you get a quiet, relaxed environment with pleasant owners, a great breakfast and a good location.

Note: the B&B is a little hard to find, so here are directions: From Piha Road look for Te Ahuahu Road, which is on the left a few kilometers past the road to Karekare Road. Drive to the end of Te Ahuahu Road, which turns into Log Race Road. They are number 14A, on the left.

Tip: for an even better sunset, walk or drive to the end of Log Race Road. On the right side of the car park, there is a toilet and a hiking path. Walk down this path about 300 meters, where you will find small bench that looks over the ocean. Great spot to watch the sun go down!

Having never visited Auckland we decided to book one night on our way back from Masterton to the UK. A friend recommended one or two places that were not more than an hour from the Airport and we plumped for Piha beach. The drive is interesting with the chance to stop off at the interpretation centre and places to eat on the way. Graham and Vivs' place was ideal. The views are stunning and there are walks to suit all capabilities. We took an hours walk from the B & B along the cliffs and a longer walk to the local waterfalls. Our hosts were very welcoming and made us feel at home from the start. Breakfast on the balcony was a great start to our final day, with fresh fruit, toast, yogurt, local honey and a fresh coffee. All in all this was an ideal choice. We could have spent much longer here exploring the beaches and local walks. Maybe next time. A place not to be missed and a perfect b & b to base yourself, comfortable bed too and fabulous views!!
