I've been on two tours with this company- Auckland city revealed and wilderness experience. Both drivers- Dion and Wayne were attentive, courteous and really enjoy their job. Commentary was a mixture of local history/ knowledge and personal anecdotes. The group was a great mixture of different nationalities. I felt very comfortable as a solo on these tours- and NZ is a remarkably beautiful country.

I have been to Piha before and loved it. Really lovely back drop to it and a safe 'river' running through for the kids to play. Life guards on duty so safe for swimming. There are a couple of really nice cafe's as well. Worth a visit more than once.

The view and wals around here are SPEC-TAC-U-LAR!! I mean if you want to see raw NZ beauty this is a must do. Plenty to explore, and great for photograph...however just be careful when swimming here. Please know what you are doing. Otherwise pack your own lunch as there is not much here and it costs and arm and a leg!

With famous Lion Rock, there is no more iconic beach for surfers or swimmers alike when on the west coast of Auckland. Hot black sands, rolling surf, pohutukawa trees and native birds

It's best to travel to Piha by private car. It's not just about the beach, lots of trail walks nearby of varying lengths and for a range of fitness levels. Kitekite Falls nearby is a 1 hour return trip by foot. As you approach the Falls, the track is rocky so beware. Your feet will also get wet as you have to cross over water/rocks. You can swim at the Falls so take your togs if you want to swim.

If you're hungry, the Piha Cafe has great pizza. It's a bit of a wait before it comes out but it's good. Otherwise, take a (cheaper) packed lunch.

The only reason why the area only gets 4 stars is because we had a rude encounter with a 'local'. We mistakenly pulled into the camping grounds because we desperately needed the bathroom. We were told sternly by someone who must have been a permanent trailer resident of the grounds that we could not park there and to stop "bulls****ing" him. We were honestly just there for a quick toilet stop. When we left, we saw the minuscule, knee-high sign that said non camping vehicles should not enter. So if you're in the area, stay clear of the grounds if you don't want to be verbally abused and have your day ruined. And look out for the tiny sign.
