My wife booked a one night midweek break for the two of us for my Christmas present and it was the ultimate chill out experience. We stayed in the Torsin suite which was extremely spacious and luxurious, the bar and restaurant areas were warm, roomy and cosy too. Our meal in the evening was excellent as was the service and the waitresses. We slept well in the comfortable sleigh bed then enjoyed a big and tasty breakfast while being attended to by attentive staff and when we used the room service for tea and coffee it arrived almost immediately.
The whole experience was so totally relaxing and much appreciated and I don't understand why there are so many comments about there being no reception desk, what's the big deal ? It's a pub with rooms ! I just told the barmaid when we arrived and she arranged to get the key for us. Stop being picky. Perfect break. Thanks to all the staff

Room Tip: Ask for the Torsin suite

Although only living 10 miles away from The Plough, we decided to stay overnight rather than taxi home after a Christmas Party.
Our group for the party was about 20 and I would estimate that about 120 people attended in total. The event was excellent value - £25 per head - with a three course meal preceding the disco dancing. Like the majority of guests, I thought the food was excellent considering the nature of the event.
The overnight accommodation is absolutely 5 star. We stayed in Bellingham, which is really a suite, having a lounge between the bedroom and the (stunning) bathroom. This permitted me to arise relatively early and read the papers, without disturbing my wife. As I said above, we only live 10 miles away, but we are planning another stay.

Room Tip: The Bellingham 'suite' overlooks the hills to the south and the windows can be left open wit...

Stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding at the sister hotel

Arrival a bit odd with no reception as such and I had to guess on a door to knock on, almost felt I had disturbed the man who emerged.

Once taken to the room the whole experience improved. Lovely suite, Bellingham with a superb bathroom. Bed most comfortable too. Plenty of storage. Iron available.

24 hour tea and coffee provided to room. Available in the early hours of Sunday morning when we returned from the day.

Eat dinner at the hotel on Friday which was enjoyable with a good choice and also enjoyed the breakfast although perhaps could be a bit later at the weekend? At least it is now included without being charged extra for hot food. I believe the change made owing to feedback.

Plenty of parking.

Price may be on the high side for what it is but looked at it as a bit of a splurge and wasn’t disappointed.

First rate place to stay with very well appointed room and fabulously comfy bed. Dining at the Plough highly recommended too, with good 'posh pub plus' menu delivering very generous portions at great value (still can't get over the whitebait - fab). Only slight oddity was that there was no temperature control in the room. The inn immediately offered some free-standing heaters when we mentioned this, bit that seems a real palaver when guests may want things a couple of degrees hotter or colder. Don't let that put you off though, still VG.

We stayed at the plough for our first night away at our perfect wedding at mitten hall. We decided to stay in the toursin room the largest room at £195 a night which we thought was expensive but given it was our wedding we decided to treat ourselves.
The room was very big but guess we were expecting more from it. A few niggles no kettle to make coffee or tea and very noisy room next to the main road. The bath and shower are the highlight of the room.
We decided to book a meal in the restaurant and again the service was average. Think they were under staffed even though the restaurant wasn't full. They forgot one of our dishes and just weren't very prompt with their service.

All in all it didn't spoil the stay as we had a nice relaxing break but won't be rushing back.

Room Tip: Not near the main road

We stayed here to break our journey as it was just off the M6. At 9pm we arrived cold & hungry but the warm welcome, bright fires & the prospect of excellent food soon raised our spirits. The room was The Redmund, very spacious with one of the largest bathrooms we've ever experienced. Under floor heating & lighting, large bath & separate huge walk in shower were a joy along with white fluffy towels. For dinner we both chose the fish 'n & chips & they turned out to be the best we'd ever eaten, definitely not the soggy offerings from the average High St. The only negative was the clock on the bedside table which seemed to have a very loud tick. When I mentioned this to the manageress next morning she promised to move it.

Room Tip: All are fantastic & quiet.

Stayed at The Plough for a two night mid-week break. Cannot recommend it more! The rooms are seriously comfy with beautiful, luxurious bathrooms. Very friendly staff, always willing to offer advice, relaxed service and very helpful. Good food and possibly the best chocolate brownie I have had in a restaurant! Strongly recommend it and will be back! Abi and her team have it spot on.
