My partner and I booked The Pilgrim for our Valentines meal. It not my first visit! But, was first time for this special occasion. The staff were so attentive upon arrival and welcoming. Nice atmosphere. We sat in the conservatory area where on a summers eve or during the day, the views are outstanding. The menu was presented to us all especially done for the night. We ordered and were shown to our table. Each course was served promptly but not rushed. They had plenty of staff in which I appreciate as you are not left waiting or overlooked. The food was to an extremely high calibre. We enjoyed everything that we had chosen. So well displayed. Couldn't fault a single thing. Wonderful can't wait to return soon

Hi Ludlow33, thanks for taking the time to review your meal at the Pilgrim. We accept that it is an honest review on your part but the staff are very keen to reply and correct any bad impressions that they review may cause.

We have investigated your comments and have disciplined the staff on duty that day who have accepted that they did not carry out their duties in a satisfactory manner. Unfortunately your comment of "can't blame the staff, only doing there job" is not at all accurate in this instance.

We took the stance some years ago to drop fried bread from our menus. It is possibly acceptable at a "greasy spoon", but we felt it did not suit our requirements. We are happy to supply it as we always have bread and "fat" to prepare it. American hash browns have never appeared on our "Full English" menu cards and probably never will.

Turning to 1 sausage etc. you are quite correct, our standard plate does indeed come with one of everything, plus a portion of beans and mushrooms, but the menu makes clear that larger portions are available at no extra cost. Our staff failed to point this out on your menus and it is for this seemingly vital failing that we have taken action against them.

For the record, our "Full English" package includes a choice from:
Unlimited Tea/Coffee, Yoghurt, Cereals, Pastries, Unlimited Fruit Juice, Fruit Salad, Unlimited Toast, Eggs [as you like them], Bacon, Beans, Sauasage, Mushrooms & Smoked Haddock.

It should also be noted that our food is cooked to order and we do not operate a buffet system with cooked food shrivelling and drying out inside heated tins until guests choose to take it.

We therefore note with some pleasure that you appear to be happy with the quality of the freshly cooked food provided, there was simply not enough of it in your choice from the menus and you failed to note the larger portion option. We must address in the future.

It would be great to see you back again in the near future when you can "double up" at the same price and fill up for the day!

Best wishes

We decided to take our family out for sunday lunch as it was our ruby wedding and we wanted to give them a treat. We have eaten here previously and really enjoyed it, however, we were very disappointed, especially as we had said how lovely it was before. Service was soo slow, not once did they come back to us and ask if we wanted another drink. So slow in between courses,we asked for more veg as didn't look like enough to go around us all (10 of us) but, the veg came 20 mins later!!! . Won,t rush back. Such a shame. I was asked on leaving if everything was ok I told the waiter we had had better previously, he said no one else had complained!!

We stayed at the Hotel and ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and 3 breakfasts. Consistently good food, with the souffles & local trout being my personal favourites, my partner loved the Hereford beef. Marvellous experience
