“Ok experience”
Reviewed June 30, 2014 via mobile

Visited Vancouver Island several times previously but this was the first time we visited the Butterfly Gardens. Found a Groupon online for cheaper admission.

It was interesting to see the different types of butterflies flittering about. We saw caterpillars, the cocoons, the iguana, some parrots, the flamingos and tortoises. Lots of tropical plants. Overall, it was good but pricy for the amount of time we spent at the Gardens even with the Groupon.

Hello PrincessDumpling

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that you felt the experience was only "OK". From your review, I can see that you got to see a number of the creatures we have on site and it sounded like the day was a good butterfly flight day. I would be eager to learn what we could do to make it a more worthwhile attraction. Please feel free to contact me at info@butterflygardens.com.

“Lovers' delight”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Buchart garden seems to have new varieties of plants on display every year. My family went there quite late in the day for the people we asked didn't seem to seem to know where it is. We were mildly surprised to see lots of oriental plants common in our country, Philippines. So we zeroed in the areas where they had all kinds of roses and of course, the fantastic view of the lake. How we wish we didn't get lost so we could have stayed longer. It must be a prolonged ecstasy amidst such beauty. A spiritual healing that is a ritual to one's life.

Of course I emphasized to my children that the expensive entry should be translated to a viable community development when we go back. Such beauty can be replicated in any communities. Though I didn't see any tulips as advertised in their advertisements, I saw the importance and beauty of our own native, tropical plants. Hope all hotels in Vancouver would encourage guests to visit this attraction.

“well worth the visit”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

This is a lovely, calm, almost magical place.
Good for anyone of any age.
Do not rush your visit. It is small but easily worth 45 minutes to an hour or more. Go with the intention to relax, experience the beauty and be enchanted (or amazed if you are under 8). And if you have any skill whatsoever with a camera, you will be rewarded with many opportunities to capture some amazing butterflies, moths, flamingos, koi, plants...
I paid for a day pass and decided to upgrade to an annual pass afterwards for the price of 1 more visit (I am a local). There's a very good chance I'll go back at least 1 more time in the next 12 months, even if its just to take a moment out of regular hectic life and stop and watch the butterflies (which really do flutter all around you in this space and often land on you!).

“Kid Approved”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

Visiting Victoria, we took a day trip on Sunday to visit the Saanich area, and the kiddoes definitely wanted to stop here, more so than Butchart Gardens(less walking, cuter bugs).

It isn't cheap but they offer a family discount. It's a combo small botanical gardens, butterfly paradise, and fishpond/flamingo hangout. The staff are very informative, and there are a ton butterflies. They show them in different stages of growth. Very colorful, great pictures and my wife and children just spent a ton of time here.

Good size gift shop(hard to get the kids out), restaurant across the road which we didn't try, and it's on the way to the Gardens- easy to find.

“Interesting but pricey”
Reviewed June 22, 2014 via mobile

Was able to Groupon this and cut costs. Still...it's pricey. Excellent facility, although it is small. Great butterfly collection. The poisonous froga were also interesting. Worth visiting.
