I brought my 2.5 year old granddaughter who loves butterflies. We saw a total of 10-12 butterflies which was very disappointing. I remember a day when there were so many that the butterflies were landing on us.

We were told that it was cloudy and they do not fly on cloudy days. Also this is not the best time to go. I wish someone told me that before I paid the $15 for the 10 minute visit.

Went with one elderly family member & a 5 yr old. We all enjoyed it. Very humid & hot inside so you do not need a jacket, probably even a good idea to wear shorts. There's more than just butterflies - they have turtles, lizards, tropical & carnivorous plants and birds. Even flamingos! Very interesting. Adults are $15. Seniors $10 and kids 5 & under are free. Better deal to buy an annual pass.

The first time we went in we had come in out of the rain at Butchardt Gardens. Our lenses for our camera fogged up horribly because of the tropical temperatures and humidity and even though we warmed up the lenses they wouldn't dry out. The staff gave us vouchers for the next day after we could get our camera and lenses dried out. We took advantage of it. If you like taking lots of closeup shots of tropical flowers and butterflies, flamingos and other tropical birds this is the place for you. If you like warm places with lots of cool things to look at this is for you.

The Butterfly Gardens is a more than a tourist trap. This is a wonderful spot. There are butterflies everywhere and very knowledgeable staff present to answer any questions as well as give short presentations about how they do things.
I loved the flamingos and fish swimming in the pools, waterfall, sounds of birds overhead and all the butterflies of course.
We saw cocoon incubators and butterflies in various stages of development and learned about their lifespans.
One word of advice: Wear a short sleeved shirt because it is indeed tropical (hot and humid).
