Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

I have never seen a more beautiful garden. Every where you turn there are beautiful flowers, fountains, and landscapes. It's a must see for everyone visiting Victoria.

Last week I visited the gorgeous Butchart Gardens. The roses were in bloom and the great beauty of the blooming flowers was everywhere. BUT...where were the butterflies, bees, birds, snakes, insects???? The lawns were so green and weed free. The paving stones were so pristine//also nary a weed to be seen in the cracks. Surely the famous garden would not resort to chemicals to attain such perfection? Surely this style of gardening is no longer in vogue?/! Personally, I would prefer a few dandelions and clover in the grass if I could also enjoy the birds and insects!!!

Very nice, well-maintained garden. My favorite was the sunken garden! There is also a Japanese, rose, and Italian garden, which are also very nice. Another impressive specimen is the coastal redwood, which is only 80 years old, but already wider than my arms can stretch - 6'+ diameter!

a glorious trip which included a scenic Harbour Air seaplane flight piloted by Mike from the Bay in Victoria to the gardens, a walk through the Japanese and Italian gardens, a delightful and delicious dining experience with Elizabeth taking excellent care of us. After dinner we strolled the gardens, listened to the tail end of a live jazz concert and a limo ride back to Victoria.

I tood a day tour to Vancouver Island from Vancouver and part of the tour was a two hour stop at Butchart Gardens. I had read a lot about the gardens before going but what I read really undersold the true beauty and scope of the gardens. I could easily have stayed another 2 hours it was that big and beautiful.

Each garden area had it's own unique beauty and style and little surprises could be found in each area as well.

The gift shop was wonderful as well. I could not resist a few local products and some soft serve while I was there.

If you have any level of interest in flowers or gardens then you will love this place. I may go back to Vancouver island again in another season just to see the different flowers in the garden blooming.
