Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Lockers / storage, Activities for young children, Food available for purchase

If you are in Vancouver Island this is a no miss. Not a cheap thrill, but to hammer home the will and determination of a nation this is it. To build a garden from nix, make it so lovely, easy to view, wonderful vistas to photograph, this is for you. The usual schtick, tea rooms etc.. but so so worth a look see.
Easy to get to. Shuttle buses, tours, public transport.
Well signed. You can take a day, a morning or an afternoon.
You will come home with ideas that will make your own garden a treat too.

The gardens are a must see on Vancouver island.
My visit was on a very wet day, but as a lover of flowers and plants it was most enjoyable.

We found the price far exceeded the scope of the attraction. The grounds were impressive however the variety of flowers/plants just was not there. There were little or few signs describing the various plants. We were disappointed with the overall presentation and we love to visit Botanical gardens wherever we travel.

A converted limestone quarry -you would never believe it unless you see it
If you like gardens this is a must see
Have never seen anything like this in our limited travels
Privately owned it is maintained by over 260 employees including 40+ master gardeners
Worth every cent of admission and as much time as you can allow our one and half hours was several hours short
This a must see and once is not enough
