Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

In fact, they are a requirement. The sheer volume of floral displays of all colors and types overwhelm your eyes., The grounds are immaculate but the tour buses unending. Go early. Butchart is one of those "must sees" that live up to one's expectations. It is pricey, but it's hard to imagine visiting Victoria and not stopping in.

This is a must see if you are in Victoria. These gardens are just magnificent. Every thing was in bloom. (except roses - it was too early in season). Grounds were immaculate. I'll go again if I ever have the chance.

Although it was raining, the gardens were beautiful. Amazing colours, varieties and sizes. The ferry trip to Vacouver Island is incredible and the to walk around Victoria and dine at the Empress Hotel made our day.

While i really enjoyed the ferry ride to and fro the vancouver island, I did not enjoy the gardens and was wondering if we could have avoided it completely and see the van duesen garden within the city.

Also when we are walkign the garde it was extermely hot , so I guess that too added to the dissatisfaction. Unless you are really into floewers and gardens you may not feel its worth 32 a ticket , plus the cost ofanother 100 to do to and from from vancouver city.
