Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

“Beautiful Gardens.”

A spectacular garden, well laid out and easy to access. New displays on a seasonal basis plus specials at Christmas. The Christmas show is great. The twelve days of Christmas all portrayed in small scenes around the grounds. Afternoon tea is wonderful, great value for the money. Dining at the restaurant is also very good, excellent food and good service.

“Almost reverential”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

When you walk through the acreage at the gardens you are basking in the love of plants from the Butchard family to every plant and landscape person that maintains this lush jewel on a daily basis. It's breathtaking. There are four formal gardens, all with accompanying topography or sculptures. 122 pictures between Vern and me in three hours. We shared a gelato, which was most excellent.

“I could get lost and I would not care”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

It is magical, every inch is spotless and each flower carefully placed. Stunning and breathtaking!
My friend and I both suggested we could easily live in the tree house and never leave. Well done.

“Vibrant colors paint the scene in Victoria, British Columbia”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Butchart Gardens is simply amazing. When we got to the entry gate and were told that entry cost $33, we almost turned back. Fortunately we did not but continued into this unbelievably beautiful place. There are acres and acres of flowers of every sort absolutely every where one looks. Fragrant roses, huge dahlias, baskets of tuberous begonias. It is impossible to describe and do the garden justice. There are dozens of kinds of blooms, bushes, and trees. Fountains dance in the perfect setting.

i recommend this wondrous garden without any hesitations. If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Victoria, British Columbia, do not miss this treat.

“A `must do` when on Vancouver Island”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

The gardens are achingly beautiful, with various themed gardens (Italian, Japanese, sunken, rose etc) laid out sequentially and down to the creek.
Excellent gift shops and cafe, and good parking. Obviously a major tourist attraction so can get busy in the middle of the day.
Parking well organised, and staff friendly and helpful.
