Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

A must do if you are in the area and if you are not in the area it is worth the trip. Was a little hesitant to pay the high admission price, but I would pay double after seeing it. Don't rush through, give yourself a couple hours to take it in. You don't have to be a flower/garden person to enjoy this place.

Our family visited in January on a cold rainy afternoon (clear plastic umbrellas were freely available for our use in the gardens which was very helpful). Whilst we could see the beauty even amongst the rain, we did keep saying "It's probably beautiful in Summer". Having said that, we did enjoy our afternoon and had fun spotting the different displays for the 12 days of Christmas. It is obvious that a huge amount of effort and creativity has gone into the gardens and it is worth visiting, but in winter on a rainy day, not sure.

This is a must see! Absolutely Gorgeous! What vision Mrs. Butchart had! She took an ugly stone quarry and turned it into a show place. Eat lunch or have high tea in the gardens.

I don't care what they say over in England. The Butchart Gardens are the most beautiful gardens in the world. The Gardens in May and June have a the most gorgeous combinations of tulips and forget-me nots. If you go back again in July and August you will see the most spectacular rose collection in the world. I've seen the Rose Garden at Blenham Palace in England, and I think The Butchart garden's are way better.

It's also the best garden because you're allowed to walk your dog around on a leash as long as you promise to clean up after the dog.

Just like the postcards. A bit crowded but nothing like the summer months will be. Worth going if in the area even if you dont care for gardening!
