Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

beautiful flowers and shrubs, impressive trees, fountains, easy layout with lots of information, places to sit and enjoy the views, different themed gardens, good cafe and restaurant and shopping, plenty of parking space, umbrellas provided, perfect despite the rain. wish we could have seen the fireworks!

I found out that you are allowed (even encouraged) to walk your dog around the gardens. They will rent leashes, they staff gave my dog a treat, and all water is labled if it is not drinkable. The dog specific water is not stagnant and runs fresh. The tourists will sometimes take photos if they like your dog. They will supply waste bags. There is a dog "parking" spot by the gift shop. My season pass provides 10% off gifts and food. Free umbrellas to use in the rain. Extremely welcoming.

Buy an annual pass and go as often as you can! Ride every animal on the merry go round. Have a peppermint hot chocolate in the snow in the winter and enjoy the 12 days of Christmas. It's world class and a real delight.

Beautiful! The Sunken garden and the Japanese Garden was the best. We were to early for the Rose garden, but still - flowers everywhere..The time goes quick, plan at least 2-3 hours for the walk in the garden. The garden is worth the visit if you are in the Victoria area.
