This is a neat way to display pictures and artifacts. I enjoyed walked on the pier and stopping in the 3 "huts" and larger room in which various maritime artifacts were displayed.

Wooden boat museum with boats being restored, historic canoes, old outboard motors, scaled boats and others. The only museum I have ever seen that is on stilts in 4-5 different buildings. Enjoy the view while walking on the semi- outdoor museum. My family enjoys visiting this museum. Entrance is by donation. It is great to go visit with a cup of coffee and a danish from the local bakery. Part of the museum is currently under renovation for roof repair.

MUSEUMS are nearly always worth a look and this one in the village of Cowichan Bay certainly opened a window on the type of boats the area has seen.
Much more importantly, it is preserving a piece of British Columbia's history and when you step off the road and start exploring this seashore site there is always something new to see.
For a start there is quite a wide variety of craft on offer although not all of them are visible, some being covered with tarpaulins. Information boards warned visitors what to expect because the site was being renovated and upgraded when we visited.
What craft are on show, particularly those at the far end near several displays, gleam with varnish and look a picture while details of their history make fascinating reading.
The Society doesn't hide its aims and makes no bones that donations are vital to help future work so we had no hesitation in dropping a few dollars into a collection point.
But the museum is more than just history on tap. This is an incredibly picturesque part of the coast and it is possible to see it in a new light courtesy of the museum's position and its observations. A good way to pass an hour or so.

Great scenic little town.. Cowichan Bay- waterfront restaurants and patio music!
The Boat Society is interesting and worth a visit while in town, history of fisheries in the area and local artist displays.
