“Little fishing village get away”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We had a Travelzoo deal for a two night stay, and it was as advertised... the 2 bedroom suite with kitchen, livingroom and 1.5 baths was perfect for us staying with our adult kids. The staff is SO nice and accomodating. And the crab eggs benedict in the restaurant was wonderful for breakfast. Not a lot to do in September in this little town, I expected it to have more shops and things going on. Unfortunately the hotel pool was closed while they replaced windows and the bakery was closed on Mon-Tues while we were there. A good location to travel out from for day trips to Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Chemainus.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor (street level) and there was some road noise in the evening in the back bed...

Every room has an amazing oceanfront view. We stayed in a king suite with a kitchenette and second double bedroom. Conveniently located in Cowichan Bay, it was walking distance to great restaurants, pubs, wineries and Duncan. Excellent pool and gym. Lovely place to stay.

I would never have known about this property except for a promo they are currently having with room and restaurant. Very peaceful and located in a very eclectic place - Cowichan Bay - with local arts and eateries. Half way between Victoria and Nanaimo, so easy to get here by way of many different ferries. Friendly front desk staff. Room walls and floors allow noise, but overall a very quiet hotel. A lot has been done to upgrade this property. Nice, large suites. If more than two people are staying and you're planning to eat in you will need to make arrangements for better stocking of dining furniture, eating utensils, towels, etc. Don't count on much in the way of local grocery - you'll have to go up the hill to Duncan. ATM in the convenience store a block north - several places only take cash, including Zoe's, the local coffee house. Would be nice to have a better association between the in-house restaurant and hotel to allow billing to the room. The restaurant just leases space - separate review of Terrain Kitchen. Decent fitness room - more equipment than most hotels; odd mix of cardio machines, but they work and are kept clean.

I would come back!

Room Tip: All rooms have water view. Ground floor opens onto patios and sunning area. Fourth floor is the &quo...

I absolutely loved our stay here!!! My husband and I with our dog and my in laws with their dog rented a beautiful 2 bedroom suite on the 3 floor facing the bay ! The price was soooo reasonable, even cheaper than renting two separate little crappy motel rooms somewhere and here we got a two bed suite with a nice kitchen and living room area to hang out in. We come to Duncan once a yr to visit family and we just discovered this gem this yr, unfortunately we wasted a few yrs staying in those crappy little motels in Duncan I've already mentioned. I know this beautiful hotel is going through yet another management / ownership transition and can only hope it is still available to stay in next year!! I really felt like this time I was on a real holiday with this gorgeous view every morning and walks on the beach, I didn't want to leave! The only bad thing I have to say would be about the restaurant, the ceased salads we ordered for take out we're fabulous one nite but the next morning when we went to pick up our breakfast order to take to our room, it was a horrible breakfast, we avoided eating there the rest of the trip but very much enjoyed all the other little restaurants and shops on the strip. Again, LOVED this hotel,,,

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel for 2 nights and I would go back in a heart beat. The hotel is right on the marina, there isnt even a road between them. The suite was beautifully decorated and very up to date in style and comfort levels. The bathroom was very clean and fresh and the bedroom was extremely spacious with lovely linens. We were slightly concerned that there was a regatta on that weekend and there were a lot of boats in the marina, with a lot of socialising going on and there was a fair ammount of noise coming from the marina, but once the full length window was closed, we literally couldnt hear anything.
The pool and work out area are very nice and well equiped. Just remember to take a towel down from the room as there are no towels at the pool as it also serves as a pool for the local area. My dripping all over the elevator was met with a cheerful " Dont worry... we have a mop for that!"
Restuarant was wonderful and the breakfasts were truely superb. You have to try their french toast with raspberry yogurt and almonds, and the crab cake benidict was awesome. 10 out of 10. The hotel staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our only very small complaint is that the bar area is way up on the top floor and only open till 9 while the restaurant is open and it would have been really nice to be able to sit out on the deck later on at night and have a beer. There is a pub right next door which serves great pub food, but it is not the same as being able to relax in the hotel.
Cowichan Bay village is a great little spot with great individual shops, galleries and tour operators. There is a great shop in the village which makes all its own bread and also a cheese shop.
All in all a great place to visit and we cant wait to go back.

Room Tip: I dont think there is a bad room as they all face the ocean.

Dear MagzRoss,

Thank you very much for the wonderful review. All of us here at the hotel were so pleased to read your great feedback! We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay, the hotel & beautiful Cowichan Bay! All the staff agree with your breakfast choices as well - the crab cake benidict is the most popular and raved about breakfast item & definitely my favorite!
We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Kind Regards,

Beautiful location, great view from room, clean and bright rooms, very roomy, wonderful bed, good pillows, nice people, quiet town and wharf, very peaceful and romantic. One of the best vacations we've ever had. Perfect for our 30 year anniversary.
