Willingdon Beach Campsite
Reviewed July 23, 2013

We started camping along Sunshine Coast 8 years ago. It was an overly great experience until last year at Pender Harbor Resort and Marina. In our plan, Powell River would be our last trip to Sunshine Coast. It seems that this trip to Powell River changes everyone's mind. We're definitely going back to Powell River and Willingdon Beach Campsite.

Here is what makes Willingdon Beach an outstanding campground:
- waterfront campground, beach is within one-minute walk;
- walk to stores on Marine Ave and Alberni Street;
- dock & water park are great for kids of all ages;
- short drive to very different beaches;
- plenty of trails nearby;
- satellite washrooms with flush toilet, clean and absolutely no line-ups;
- Best firewood, 2 boxes lasted for 2 nights and 2 mornings (good we listened to Ron and didn't buy too much firewood);
- RON and LEANNE are the most welcoming hosts.

Room Tip: - book a site with power and water; - 2-day stay is too short; - arrange a day trip to Savary Isla...

This was our second stay at Willingdon and once again we were thrilled to find a site right on the beach. It costs more because it has electricity (handy to inflate our bed) although not terribly important for tenters like us. At any rate, the views were spectacular, firewood was dry, washroom and showers were clean and close by, and we had a wonderful sleep listening to the waves lap on shore. This has become our favourite campground and we will definitely be back!

As camping goes, you can not beat the location, but yah goota love your neighbors if you stay here.
I think they could at least plant some hedges or at least thin out some of the sites.
Most sites have power, but the plug in could be well over 50' from your site, I unraveled my extension, dragged it as close to the box as possible and pulled my trailer (tent) till I could plug in. I wish they had mentioned this when I called.
The sites are very small compared to the provincial sites.
The sites right on the beach have a 2 year wait list. We were directly across from those sites and it was fine. We were next to a hill so we only had a neighbor on one side.
The washrooms are clean and cost $1 for a 4 minute shower. Plenty of time and due to not being free, they are always avaiable.
My kids loved fishing from the float and jumping off the walkway out to it.
We were recommended this campsite by some people we met in Tofino 2 years ago.
Lo and behold, they were here when we were. Man is it a small world.

You can get great treats from the concession on the beach. There is a kids playground and small water park. Across the street is minin golf, but we didn't bother. We even brought some DVD's, but the kids didn't watch one.
We cruised the low strip, some great eats and then walked up the short hill to where the malls are, that was handy and only took maybe 15 minutes.

My kids say they want to come back so we just might.

Hope this helps.
