“Enjoyed Northland Lodge”

Had a very comfortable stay at this lodge … The sheets were the freshest - whitest ever. This place had character and the morning muffins were awesome!!! The owner was very friendly and very accommodating.

Wanting to get down to Waterton for a few years now, I did so at the beginning of June with one night booking at Northland Lodge. Made a phone reservation & was able to be upgraded. Traveling from Edmonton, over 300 km, wanted more of a personal touch, B&B, a quieter older setting, far end of town and being early in the season, found the price less and fewer tourists! Traveled with my dog, Nanuq, not allowed in the room, slept in my car. But we sat on upper deck outside for abit and then a walk, up to Cameron falls and down to the lake. The B&B within walking distances of the lake and two trail heads, Lots of local wildlife and even a yearling bear cub in back parking lot. Remember if hiking with a dog must be on leash and have a can of bear spray with you.

Parking is at rear, and not evident upon first arrival, needing to go around end of the block. Lots of stairs in front.

Room #4 located upstairs in the back, not large but a comfortable double bed with fresh cotton sheets, a small fridge, private bath with shower, not tub, and my favorite blue color. Was rather coolish until figured out the small space heater and had to ask for the wifi pass code. Delightful breakfast of coffee, tea, juice, muffins and jam in an older elegant dining room. Appreciated the late check out as did a hike with my dog, coming back absolutely soaked, showered and changed for trip home.

Went through the buffalo paddock on way from park but only saw 2 bison.
and then north on Highway 22 Cowboy Trail…very much ranch country with mountains to the west. Cell of rainstorms gave moments of dark threatening skies. At one point saw a double rainbow and just missed a mother duck and 6 ducklings at side of road.

We only spent one night at the Northland Lodge, renting two rooms. Everything was great and we really enjoyed the short time there and in the town of Waterton. The rooms were nice and very clean. My only grip would be that they could use a fan in the rooms and turn off the outdoor lighting or provide darker shades.
Breakfast was nice with hot coffee, juice and warm muffins.
Overall, this is a great place to stay in a great town for hiking, walking or just enjoying.

Two nights was not enough for us in Waterton and staying with Stacey at Northland Lodge was terrific and we hope to return soon! We stayed in rm 8 on the ground floor which was our preference for easy access. Great room, shower, muffins and close to the trails, lake, town and waterfall. Stacey was helpful with planning our hikes and dinners in town. We love that the lodge has been in her family for generations. Thank you for welcoming us into your home!

The lodge was the home of a large family, decades ago, and has a long history. it is well kept up, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed coffee and muffins in the morning with the other guests and talked about our travel plans. The rooms have lots of pretty old fashioned details but great modern beds. Of course, since it is an old building, some of the rooms are small (think Paris hotel rooms!), while others for families have a number of comfortable beds. There are TV and DVD movies in the lounge. We really enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Best idea is to call the Lodge and discuss your plans and needs with the manager.

The lodge is in a quiet part of the small town, not far from the waterfall. There is a wrap around deck on the upper level. Rooms are quaint, but very clean and fresh. Sheets are line dried and then pressed with lavender and smell wonderful! There is coffee, juice and freshly baked muffins with jam for breakfast which was just right. Very cozy and a delightful stay. We stayed in room #1, Joanie's room on the upper level which has an en suite bath and private entrance and a great view of the mountains.

There are few places to stay in Waterton Lakes and we are fortunate that this B&B is one. The staff is welcoming and the rooms are comfortable and very clean. The building has a large wrap-around balcony where it's easy to spend the hours viewing the park. This is the second time we've stayed here and I look forward to future visits.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This historic lodge was built and designed in 1928 by Louis Hill of the Great Northern Railway, the famous builder of The Prince of Wales Hotel along with many of the lodges built in Glacier National Park. Our hillside hideaway is located in the quiet part of Waterton nestled against the mountain and is a 5 minute walk to anywhere in town. Open your window and listen to the sound of the waterfalls all night or hang out on the large deck and watch the deer come off the mountain. And while it was undoubtedly the largest home in the park in 1928, it is small by today's standards. What we lack in size we make up for in hospitality. In the mornings we offer coffee, tea, juice and hot muffins with our famous Saskatoon Berry jam. A sit and sip to visit with other guests and learn about all the adventures available to you in Waterton Lakes National Park. ... more   less
