In the USA I generally stay at Marriotts. I can be a bit of a hotel snob. The Bear Mountain is NOT a Marriott and if you check out the website, there is no claim to 5 star status. It is an old motor lodge and I loved it. Some previous posters come here expecting a 3-5 star hotel experience and I after reading the website, I came expecting a clean, comfortable, no frills room inside a national park. It was exactly as advertised. Which I appreciate. It was fully booked, yet quiet the nights I was there. I very much enjoyed the experience.

The front desk warned us when we checked in that the walls are thin but we really didn't notice any noise because we turned the provided fan on high before we went to bed. There are cute wooden chairs and tables outside each room where we sat in the morning to drink the free coffee. It is a good location to the town. We had the Family Room #12 which had two separate rooms each with a queen bed and a pullout in the living room. Spaces were VERY tight, and the bathroom was teeny tiny. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. Front desk staff was nice. If you can find a place with breakfast included I would recommend that. We ate at Zums and it was $10.00 per person for breakfast. There wasn't much else to choose from in this small town.

I liked this hotel because it was clean and the woman there was very honest and friendly. She warned me about the noise from other suites because of lack of insulation, and that it is a 1960's style hotel. I appreciate the honesty. Bed was very comfortable. I guess if you're lucky enough to get decent neighbors it's pretty much perfect. Just to give you an idea: I could hear the neighbor snoring a little bit. Overall, pretty good, but I wouldn't want to get a bunch of party animals next door.

Whilst appreciated the clean comfortable room, and good location, the noise levels were horrendous. We were in room 2, and in rooms 1 and 3, the management had allowed a family with a total of 15 persons, to stay. (They told us how many guests were in the 2 rooms!) There was noise until late, and in the morning the constant banging of the doors as they went backwards and forwards between the two rooms, was dreadful. These rooms had 2 double beds in, which you would assume would accept 4 people, with a possible childs cot - think the management were being greedy allowing so many people to stay in the rooms

We arrived late in the day. Waterton was having a late spring in early June and it was cold and overcast. The room was toasty, quiet, and as we read elsewhere, the bed was comfortable. The shower reminded me of a shower stall my grandparents had in their summer house in maryland in the 50's...it worked fine. If you are not a picky person, this is a fine place. Clean and tidy. Did I say the bed was comfy?

I couldn't sign on to the internet, but didn't care. Didn't [don't] watch tv...so that should help you understand what kind of people we are.

At a time of year when it's light from 5am to 10pm, you should be spending your time outdoors and not in a motel room, so IMO a clean quiet spot to lay your head and wash up is about all that's needed. Bear Mountain fulfilled that fine.

While we aren't extravagant [obviously], lodging and food seemed somewhat expensive to us in Canada and we're from Santa Cruz where it's easy to spend $30-40 on lunch. At the same time, while pretty, Canadian money is a little like monopoly money, so I could barely keep from lighting my cigars with it, or at least, dropping a $50 for less than a tank of gas.

This is our 4th stay at the Bear Mountain Motel. The motel is cute & clean. The rooms are in good repair. Prices are very reasonable. On all four occasions we have traveled by Motorcycle. The staff have made us more than welcome & even bring out rags for us to clean our bikes! The only downside I found is the wi-fi is very hit & miss. They have complimentary coffee, tea & hot chocolate available in the reception area.

Waterton is a lovely town - the views are amazing. There are plenty of places to eat & lots to do. Zum's does an excellent 'Hippy Wrap'

This has turned into being one of our favorite places to stay en route to the US.

We usually read reviews on TripAdvisor before booking, so i was a little unsure about what we'd find at Bear Mountain Motel, given the mixed bag of reviews about the noise and the size of the rooms.

We stayed here in early June for 2 nights (Sat/Sun) so not quite in the busy season (the motel wasn't full). We were in room #30, a double with kitchen facilities at the front of the motel, so it had a reasonable view of the lake and was away from the main block of rooms, so probably a bit quieter because of that.

Everything was very clean and comfortable and we didn't have any issues with noise or lack of hot water (quite the opposite!). The bathroom was cosy, even by European standards, but was big enough to use comfortably. The shower nozzle was tiny but what it lacked in size, it more than made up for in force! Great for tired muscles. The kitchen area was also basic and quite small (2 gas rings, fridge with icebox, toaster, no oven or microwave) but had some cupboard space and all the utensils, crockery, cutlery, etc you'd need for a quick meal or for making a packed lunch. As some other reviewers pointed out, the TV did only have 3 channels (CBC, Global & CTV) and reception was pretty patchy, as was the Internet connection. There is reliable Telus cell phone reception in the village tho. All that said.. we loved our kitschy little room and the bargain price and would happily stay there again.

It's a very short stroll into the village where you have a choice of shops, restaurants and cafes, plus one pub. We ate at Pearls and Zums and both were good. One thing I would recommend, if you want to do any self catering, is to bring supplies (or Pincher Creek has a supermarket) as the grocery store in town doesn't have that much choice and is very pricey! If you're here in off-season you may also find that some of the restaurants, etc close a bit earlier.
